Racing spectacle and regional park 5 miles from downtown Indy
A black-and-white racing flag greets residents as they enter Eagledale under the Checkered Flag Railway Bridge. During Indy 500 weekend, residents get ready for the big event with driveway tailgate parties. When it's race time, they are close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which borders the neighborhood's west side. "During the month of May, that whole side of town is checkered flags and team flags," says Brad Polston, Realtor with Highgarden Real Estate. "That whole side of town takes a lot of pride in the race, so they're very expressive about it." During the rest of the year, residents may enjoy a more relaxing atmosphere at Riverside Regional Park, Indianapolis ' second-largest park, which is located just east of the neighborhood.
Bungalows abound in Eagledale
Single-family homes and apartment complexes are found throughout Eagledale. Most homes here were built in the '40s, '50s and '60s. Bungalows sit close together on many streets. Affordability is one of Eagledale's big draws, with a median price of $165,000 for single-family homes compared to $250,000 for Indianapolis. That price is drawing investors who flip and rent out properties. "Almost every offer I've gotten is from investors and people looking to build a rental portfolio," Polston says. Properties are on the market for between $125,000 and $245,000. Many front yards contain a tree or two and have enough room for a tire swing.
