Waterfront fun 17 miles from downtown Indianapolis
As the sun sets over Geist, residents get some of the best views of the reservoir, which may include herons, foxes and other wildlife. Locals live in this neighborhood for the Geist Reservoir and the waterfront lifestyle that comes with it, whether that's kicking back and watching the sunset or something more thrilling. "We love lake life, so we enjoy spending time on the water with our family — the beauty and the peacefulness," says Jada Green, a Geist resident of six years and Realtor with Carpenter. "We're also avid watersports people and love to wake surf and water ski." Located about 17 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis, Geist avoids most of the city noise. Yet parks, grocery stores and restaurants are close at hand.

Swimming, boating and barbecues at Geist Waterfront Park
Parts of the reservoir are open to the public for a fun day on the water. Opened in the spring of 2023, Geist Waterfront Park is a welcomed attraction. Residents can soak up the sun on the 100-yard-long beach or swim, kayak or paddleboard on the water. Kids can survey the land from the pirate-ship-themed playground. Families can complete the day with a burger or hotdog at the shaded tables. The park also has a mile of walking trails. When it's fully completed in 2040, it will include 70 acres with boardwalks over wetlands and more nature trails. At the Indianapolis Yacht Club, members take a dip in the heated pool or grab a bite from the bar and grill.

Affordable inland homes and waterfront mansions
While luxurious mansions surround the reservoir, less expensive homes are also available further from the water. Ungated subdivisions contain new traditional homes with brick and subdued brown exteriors. Although most houses were built between the '80s and '00s, many resemble vintage styles, including Colonial Revivals and Cape Cods. On the lower end of the price range, landlocked three- to five-bedroom properties are available for $300,000 to $700,000. Properties directly on the water go for between $1 million and $3 million. Those may reach up to 12,000 square feet, with private pools and boat docks. Many front yards are pristinely landscaped, with enough room for a game of croquet.

The Geist Half Marathon is a neighborhood tradition 16 years strong, taking place each September. Runners take their marks at the Olio Road Bridge at the reservoir. The event also includes 10K and 5K races.

I love living in the Geist community. The area is really on the come up and there are so many family friendly activities to enjoy. Going boating with my family on the Geist reservoir is one of my favorite activities. There also are a lot of new food/ice cream places opening up that are so delicious. The public and private schools around this area are very nice as well.
