Meridian Kessler has high-end homes close restaurants and bars

Meridian Kessler is great for those who want to live in the middle of the city of Indianapolis. "Meridian Kessler is an older and more established neighborhood," says Susan Forest, Realtor with United Real Estate Indianapolis. “I’m a third-generation Meridian Kessler. My grandparents owned in the area. My parents grew up there and I lived there. It is mostly upper-end homes with many great restaurants and bars.”

Many homes date back to early 20th century

Large American Foursquare homes with five bedrooms and four baths can go for $1,000,000. These homes, which were mostly built in the early 20th century, are refurbished while maintaining their historic appeal. The median price for homes in Meridian Kessler is $349,950.

Residents may walk to diverse dining spots

Residents enjoy the walkability of their neighborhood. Sidewalks lead to some of the best restaurants in Indianapolis. For morning coffee, they may stop by Hubbard & Cravens Coffee. For lunch, they may visit Root & Bone to try their Drunken Deviled Eggs, made with fresh drill and pickled beets. They can also try the shrimp and grits, made with a twist of sweet corn, bacon, andouille sausage and rich beer jus. For drinks, there's Red Key Tavern. This family-owned bar has been around since 1933. Those who have been coming here for years are well-acquainted with their jukebox that plays older music from the likes of Bing Crosby. One established rule there requires patrons always hang their coats on the rack.

Community is close to trails, river views and sports amenities

Meridian-Kessler residents live only a few miles south of Broad Ripple Park. This signature park has a viewing dock where residents can go to take in the beauty of the White River. There is a walking trail that leads through the wooded area of the park. The two covered shelters of the park are great for gatherings. The playground comes equipped with swings and climbing structures. The open green space is a popular place for a game of rugby, ultimate frisbee or soccer. The baseball field and tennis courts are popular places for neighbors to bond over a little friendly competition. There are also courts for pickleball. Four-legged friends can enjoy the dog park and the park’s pool is a great place to relax and cool off in the summer months. Tarkington Park features basketball courts, tennis courts, a lawn for sports and a playground. The playground is its most unique feature. There is a miniature hill that can be climbed by holding on to the rubber grips. The big sphere that stands at the top of the hill is climbable too. In the playhouse, little ones can use their imagination.

Every summer, Hoosiers from all over Indiana come together to enjoy classic rides like the Ferris wheel and merry-go-round, eclectic musical guests like the Beach Boys and Babyface and enjoy great food from food vendors from across the state. I have lived in meridian kessler my whole life and cant imagine growing up somewhere else. In middle school my friends and i would bike to butler and hang out by the river and in the gardens and then a short bike ride to get to our neighborhood pool. It is safe and a super great neighborhood to raise a family in.
