Southeast offers plenty of space within the city of Indianapolis

Southeast is an Indianapolis neighborhood that offers the kind of setting you don't typically find in the city limits. Trees are abundant and creeks add to the natural surroundings in a community where owning a home on farmland is still an option. At the same time, contemporary subdivisions have been built near the interstate loop that borders Southeast and provides residents with easy access to the city and beyond.

A mix of established homes, acreage homes and contemporary homes

Most of the neighborhood is made up of non-HOA established homes along quiet streets shaded by mature trees. The typical home offers ample yard space, with many backyards spacious enough for pools. The south side of the neighborhood offers a mix of acreage homes on farmland next to modern subdivisions such as Addison Meadows, Woodland Trails and Franklin Gardens. These contemporary homes are built close together in walkable settings with waterfront views. HOA fees are under $40 per month. Prices range from the low $100,000s for small, older homes to the mid-$300,000s for large, newer homes.
Areas along Lick Creek, which cuts through the neighborhood from Emerson Avenue to Brookville Road, face a higher risk of flooding.

From fresh neighborhood produce to dining in Irvington, Beech Grove

Waterman's Family Farm has been a neighborhood staple since 1978. Residents can stock up on fresh produce grown on-site at the family-run market, which hosts a fall festival each October with a pumpkin patch, hayrides, a corn maze and a petting zoo. Kroger in neighboring East Gate and Aldi in neighboring Irvington are additionally convenient. Aldi is located along the Washington Street commercial corridor, which is the center of Irvington's diverse dining scene. Popular destinations in the historic neighborhood include:

A Warren Township elementary school in the neighborhood

The community is served by the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township. Lowell Elementary, which serves students in kindergarten through fourth grade, is in the neighborhood. Raymond Park Intermediate and Middle School is nearby. Warren Central High is the district's only high school, and it is one of the largest in the city. Warren Central is known for the success of its athletic programs -- particularly the football team -- but it also offers more than 30 courses related to the performing arts.
St. John Lutheran School, which serves students through eighth grade, is a private option in the neighborhood.

Ballpark, aquatic center and fairground are area attractions

McNulty Park is a neighborhood attraction anchored by ballfields used for the Irvington Sports Association's youth baseball and softball leagues. Nearby Raymond Park & Indy Island Aquatic Center is a unique area attraction that combines traditional recreational amenities such as baseball diamonds, tennis courts and a short, wooded trail, with a year-round aquatic center. Indy Island's centerpiece is a 150-foot spiral slide. Adjacent to the neighborhood is the Marion County Fairgrounds, where the area's agricultural roots are on full display at the annual summer fair. The fairgrounds are also home to Circle City Raceway, which hosts regular events from March through October.

Easy access to the Indianapolis area via I-465

Residents have a couple of different options for commuting to downtown Indianapolis. Via Southeastern Avenue, it's about an 8-mile drive, and via Interstate 465, it's about a 13-mile drive. However, both commutes take around 20 minutes. It takes about the same time to get to Indianapolis International Airport, which is about 20 miles away via I-465. The loop also connects to Interstate 65 about 5 miles from the neighborhood for convenient travel to south Indianapolis and fast-growing suburbs such as
Greenwood.
