North Austin Heights is a small, quiet neighborhood in the city of Irving. While the neighborhood is small, Irving is one of America's top 100 populated cities. Size doesn't matter, though. Take it from Dee Hawkins. Hawkins, a local Realtor with Blue Crown Properties, has lived in the Irving area for nearly 30 years. "It is a good location to be," says Hawkins, who has been selling homes in Irving for 15 years.

North Austin Heights residents live in either apartment complexes or quaint ranch-style homes. There is also ample opportunity to live in new homes, including town houses. New construction is highly present in the neighborhood. Home prices fall anywhere between $200,000 and $300,000. All neighborhood streets are flanked with sidewalks, allowing residents to take leisurely strolls or walk their four-legged friends around the block. Metal fencing surrounds most homes' entire perimeters, allowing children and pets to be on the front lawn independently.

Families can send their children to the Irving Independent School District, including John R. Good Elementary School, which has earned an overall C rating from Niche. From there, students attend Austin Middle School, which has an overall C-plus Niche rating. The middle school has a STEM Lab, allowing students to explore their interests in robotics, virtual reality and 3D printing. At Irving High School, students can choose from a robust offering of career and technical classes, including aviation and culinary sciences. Niche has ranked the high school with an overall B-minus rating. Hawkins, whose children have attended several Irving Independent Schools, says, "The district's teachers are great."

Enjoy the sunshine at Sunrise Park. This roughly 9-acre green space has something for everyone with its playground, basketball court and walking trails. Pack a lunch and enjoy it at the picnic tables. Nearby is Rose Meadows Park. While smaller than Sunrise Park, Rose Meadows has two playground structures and a multi-use athletic fields. Venture out of the neighborhood to enjoy Irving's arts, culture and restaurant scene. The Irving Arts Center blends art and culture, as it's home to 10 cultural organizations, including the Irving Black Arts Council and the Irving Symphony Orchestra. Spend a night with the orchestra or visit one of the galleries. For history buffs, the city of Irving owns and operates four museums, including the Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center and the Mustangs of Las Colinas Museum. The city's entertainment district features a convention center, cinema, restaurants, and concert venue.

Head to Tortilleria La Nueva Puntada when hunger strikes for tacos and burritos. This family business, known for its in-house fresh tortillas, started nearly 55 years ago. Afterward, go next door to Fruteria Reyes for a scoop or two of ice cream. When cooking at home, find everything you need at La Michoacana Super Market. Around the neighborhood, you can get a new do at Miriam's Beauty Salon& Barber Shop, repair your shoes at the local cobbler and wash your clothes at the laundromat.

The neighborhood is roughly 10 miles from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and 13 miles from downtown Dallas. Multiple highways are within reasonable reach, including Texas State Highway 183— which connects North Austin Highway residents to the airport — the John Carpenter Freeway and the President George Bush Turnpike. While as a resident of North Austin Heights, you are well connected to the rest of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, there is plenty of life to experience right at home.
