Large trees line the streets of Sherwood Forest.
A convivial suburb in Central Irving
Sherwood Forest is an established suburb where mature trees and traditional homes sit on Robin Hood-themed streets such as Nottingham and Little John Drive. “It’s the kind of place where kids can ride their bikes around the streets, and parents don’t have to worry. You’ll see a lot of people out walking and relaxing in their yards,” says Michelle Ulloa, a Realtor with Next Level Realty with over 17 years of experience. The neighborhood sits between Route 183 and Interstate 30, which provides convenient commutes around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. “This area has always been sought after because of its location. It’s centrally located between Dallas and Fort Worth, and there’s easy access to DFW,” says Patricia Trapnell, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker who has been selling homes in the area for over 20 years.
Sherwood Forest boasts unique styles of homes.
Traditional ranch-style homes with renovations
Mature oak and elm trees shade wooden clapboard and brick ranch-style homes built around the mid-1900s. "A lot of older homes are being rehabbed, so the houses look a lot nicer. The renovations are making the neighborhood more attractive," Ulloa says. Common upgrades include new roofs, front porches and fresh paint jobs. Homes sit on landscaped lots with an average size of just under a quarter acre, giving homeowners plenty of room for a patio or garden. "You get larger lots than you would in the surrounding areas, and the homes sell quickly. On average, they're under contract within the first week or two," Ulloa says. Prices range from around $300,000 to $390,000 for a three-bedroom ranch-style home. A five-bedroom with recent renovations starts at around $445,000.
Commuting around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
Sherwood Forest is less than 10 miles north of Interstate 30 and about 3 miles southeast of the intersection of Routes 161 and 183. “It’s a great location,” Ulloa says. “Because of the proximity to highways, you can work in Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco or Mansfield and be there in 30 minutes.” Residents are also about 7 miles south of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit provides local bus service to the community with stops along Belt Line Road – the neighborhood’s western border.

Less than 2 miles north is the Park Plaza shopping center, which includes a Kroger where locals can pick up groceries.
The West Irving Aquatic Center is a great place for residents to cool off.
Opportunities for outdoor and indoor recreation
Residents are less than 2 miles east of West Park, which has a basketball court and an inclusive playground with interactive musical instruments, a quiet space for children with sensory issues and a swing set with lap bars and safety straps. The green space is also home to the Georgia Farrow Recreation Center, where members can access a gymnasium and game room. Across the street is the West Irving Aquatic Center, which features outdoor pools, waterslides and a water playground open from May through September.
Kids attend the Irving Independent School District
Younger students attend Barton Elementary School, which sits just north of the neighborhood and earned a C from Niche. Older students attend the nearby C-rated Crockett Middle School and Irving High School, rated a B-minus. The high school offers several career and technical education pathways through which students can earn industry certifications in computer science, culinary arts, and aviation science.
