Sherwood Forest

Traditional ranch-style homes with renovations
Mature oak and elm trees shade wooden clapboard and brick ranch-style homes built around the mid-1900s. "A lot of older homes are being rehabbed, so the houses look a lot nicer. The renovations are making the neighborhood more attractive," Ulloa says. Common upgrades include new roofs, front porches and fresh paint jobs. Homes sit on landscaped lots with an average size of just under a quarter acre, giving homeowners plenty of room for a patio or garden. "You get larger lots than you would in the surrounding areas, and the homes sell quickly. On average, they're under contract within the first week or two," Ulloa says. Prices range from around $300,000 to $390,000 for a three-bedroom ranch-style home. A five-bedroom with recent renovations starts at around $445,000.Commuting around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
Sherwood Forest is less than 10 miles north of Interstate 30 and about 3 miles southeast of the intersection of Routes 161 and 183. “It’s a great location,” Ulloa says. “Because of the proximity to highways, you can work in Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco or Mansfield and be there in 30 minutes.” Residents are also about 7 miles south of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit provides local bus service to the community with stops along Belt Line Road – the neighborhood’s western border.
Local eateries and proximity to shopping centers
The western quarter of Sherwood Forest is largely industrial and is home to the North Briery Industrial Park and Irving Sanitation. Restaurants line the neighborhood’s eastern border along Story Road. Residents can grab a sweet treat from Swiss Donuts, order homestyle tacos from the El Jefe food truck or head to Restaurante Latino and dine on authentic Salvadorian dishes. Less than 2 miles north is the Park Plaza shopping center, which includes a Kroger where locals can pick up groceries.
Opportunities for outdoor and indoor recreation
Residents are less than 2 miles east of West Park, which has a basketball court and an inclusive playground with interactive musical instruments, a quiet space for children with sensory issues and a swing set with lap bars and safety straps. The green space is also home to the Georgia Farrow Recreation Center, where members can access a gymnasium and game room. Across the street is the West Irving Aquatic Center, which features outdoor pools, waterslides and a water playground open from May through September.Kids attend the Irving Independent School District
Younger students attend Barton Elementary School, which sits just north of the neighborhood and earned a C from Niche. Older students attend the nearby C-rated Crockett Middle School and Irving High School, rated a B-minus. The high school offers several career and technical education pathways through which students can earn industry certifications in computer science, culinary arts, and aviation science.Festivities in Irving’s Arts District
The suburb is about 3 miles south of Irving’s Arts District, where the Irving Arts Center hosts live performances and features rotating art exhibits – including pieces on loan from the Smithsonian Institution. Just 6 miles north is the Toyota Music Factory, a mixed-use entertainment complex with an expansive outdoor amphitheater.
