Farms and Myerstown suburbs just east of Lebanon
Heading 5 miles east of Lebanon along U.S. Highway 422 leads straight into Jackson, a sprawling township with a population of roughly 9,300. Like much of the county, this area is primarily rural, but it also encompasses the budding suburbs and industrial sites surrounding the borough of Myerstown. “I live around Myerstown, and I moved here because I liked the school district,” says Kristan Reed, a Realtor with Iron Valley Real Estate. “They also do a lot of community events, block parties, church gatherings and that sort of thing. There’s a real sense of community, and it’s such a small town that most people know each other. People don’t really leave once they move here.” Conveniently located schools, a wealth of outdoor recreation and proximity to Myerstown grocers and restaurants are just a few of Jackson’s draws.
Late 20th century ranch-style homes and New Traditional subdivisions
Close to Myerstown and along Jackson’s central thoroughfares are established neighborhoods from the 1970s and 80s, with ranch-style and split-level homes perched along rolling hills and winding streets. Some more recently built New Traditional homes are also arranged in neatly-manicured subdivisions, with lot sizes of around a quarter acre. While most single-family homes are priced from roughly $200,000 to $550,000, some townhouses and early 20th-century cottages can list in the upper $100,000s, and farmhouses on multiple acres can push prices to $800,000. Some manufactured homes in 55-plus communities sell for $50,000 to $100,000.
If you are looking for a one story option, Jackson has plenty of ranch homes to choose from.

Close-by Eastern Lebanon County Schools for straightforward pickups and drop-offs
Jackson is within the Eastern Lebanon County School District. Jackson Elementary is local to the area and serves students in kindergarten through the second grade, with an overall B-minus score from Niche. Eastern Lebanon County Intermediate houses grades three through five and also earns a B-minus, while Eastern Lebanon County Middle receives a C-plus. Students round out their education at Eastern Lebanon County High, which Niche grades a B-minus. In addition to the core subjects, the high school offers courses in agricultural sciences and technology, plus an EMT certification program. “The middle school, intermediate school and high school are all close together, which is convenient,” Reed says. Multiple small private schools are also located in the area, including Myerstown Mennonite School and Stony Ridge Parochial School.
Plenty of ways to get outside, from golfing to hunting and even diving
Many of Jackson’s parks and recreational facilities are close to Myerstown, such as Jackson Recreational Park. The park’s baseball and soccer fields host youth games on the weekends, but the half-mile walking loop and disc golf course provide opportunities to get active on any given day. More fields, plus a playground, tennis courts and basketball courts, are just across the street at Fairlane Avenue Park. There’s even more in Myerstown, but one of Jackson’s most unique spots is Willow Springs Park. Right on Millards Quarry Pond, this privately operated park offers dive training and open water dives in the pond. Those who prefer to stay on dry land can tee up at Lebanon Valley Golf Course, whose greens incorporate the natural hillsides of the Lebanon Valley. “Hunting and fishing are also very popular around here,” Reed says. “We’re not far from the State Game Lands Number 80.”

Diners and shopping along U.S. Highway 422
Most businesses in Jackson tend to cluster around Myerstown, with dozens of farms and some industrial warehouses scattered across the rest of the township. A couple grocers serve the area, including Dutch Way Farm Market and Horning’s Market of Myerstown, with few other retail outposts aside from Dutch Country Ace Hardware and a Jubilee Ministries thrift store. A couple of local eateries flank U.S. Highway 422, such as Country Fare Restaurant. This kitschy, homey restaurant has been serving Pennsylvania Dutch fare and handmade pies for three decades and is considered a community staple. Farther west, Timber Creek Coffee has a bright, modern aesthetic and serves hot and cold drinks with a side of sugary confections. There’s more dining in Myerstown, and most big-box stores are in Lebanon. “In Myerstown, I really like DoGoods Tavern. The Sugar Shaker is a cute coffee shop and bakery, and Tosco Pizza is pretty good, too,” Reed says.

East of Lebanon, Hershey and Harrisburg
U.S. Highway 422 runs 5 to 10 miles west into Lebanon, or 35 to 40 miles farther to Harrisburg, where the Pennsylvania State Capitol and Harrisburg International Airport are located. Hersheypark is roughly halfway between Jackson and Harrisburg and is a major summertime attraction for residents across Lebanon County. About 10 to 15 miles south is Interstate 76, locally known as the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which puts Jackson locals roughly 80 to 85 miles from Philadelphia.
