Waterfront pastimes on the Chain of Lakes

The community sits at the top of the Chain of Lakes, a network of seven connected lakes beloved by locals for fishing, boating and pristine views. Center Lake, the largest one on the chain, has two boat launches at Michigan Center Park. The park is maintained by the Michigan Center Lions Club, has a small green space with a play area and doubles as a gathering space for events. Other recreational options in the area include Lakeland Hills Golf Course, which features an 18-hole layout, an onsite bar and a banquet hall.

Learning for life at Michigan Center schools

Annual Carp Carnival festivities at Michigan Center Park

One of Michigan Center’s major gatherings is the Carp Carnival. Hosted by Michigan Center’s local Lions Club each summer, the festival offers midway attractions, a themed parade, fishing contests and performances from local musicians. At the Page One Bar, locals can participate in trivia nights and karaoke, or simply visit for draft beer and burgers. Residents can also take a trip to Jackson to see the lights at the Cascades waterfall or visit Ella Sharp Park for the annual Art, Beer and Wine Festival during the summertime.

Page Avenue acts as Michigan Center’s primary connection to the greater Jackson County area. 5th Street and Hoyer Road are the two main north-south thoroughfares, connected along Round Lake by Grove Avenue. Residents are about 4 miles away from Downtown Jackson, 36 miles from Ann Arbor and 45 miles from Lansing. Henry Ford Jackson Hospital is about 4 miles west of the neighborhood near downtown Jackson for medical concerns. Residents traveling beyond south Michigan can catch flights at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, about 60 miles east of the community.

Dani’s Used Books has shelves filled with fiction and nonfiction texts, with a joyful doll on a swing greeting customers at the front window. Mainstream shopping in the area includes a Menards store on the west side of the area near US Route 127 along with Meijer, Aldi and Walgreens to the northwest. Kimmie K’s Café proudly calls itself the “Home of the Monster Omelette,” which has nine eggs, four cheeses, three meats, three vegetables and potato in a single dish. Andy’s Pizza & Coney Island offers Jackson-style Coney dogs and casual Italian-American fare for take-out.
