Just a few blocks north of Partnership Park, Ogma Brewing Company offers acclaimed craft beers in a contemporary space. The brewery’s beer garden hosts live music and art gallery nights. The Nite Lite offers trivia nights and drink specials. The Dirty Bird is a favorite for chicken wings and sports with bicycles and other festive décor along the walls. All three bars are part of the Downtown Jackson Social District, a designated area that lets locals explore local businesses while enjoying their favorite drinks. Summertime events in downtown Jackson include Food Truck Tuesdays, which happens twice a month from May to September at Horace Blackman Park, and the Cruise-In & Concert series, which brings classic cars and live music to the park. The area’s namesake Partnership Park and Austin Blair Park both provide play and picnic spaces along Mason Street. Horace Blackman Park is one of Jackson’s original town square areas to the neighborhood’s north and regularly hosts community gatherings. The Howard Woods Recreation Complex is southwest of the area and offers ball fields and connections to the 10-mile Falling Waters Trail for walking and cycling. Students in the Partnership Park area generally attend schools within the Jackson Public Schools district, but parents can opt to enroll kids in the local school district of their choice. Nearby schools include Cascades Elementary School, which opened in 2021 as the first new school building in the district since 1969. The school has a 13:1 student-teacher ratio and earns a C grade on Niche. Middle School at Parkside also earns a C grade. Recent updates to Jackson High School have included a remodeled media center, a new indoor athletic facility and a new pool. Partnership Park is immediately south of Downtown Jackson, making it convenient for residents working in the city center. Consumers Energy and Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, two of the city’s largest employers, are both about one mile north of the neighborhood. For commutes beyond Jackson County, Ann Arbor and Lansing are each about 40 miles away. Jackson Area Transit Authority buses are available along the neighborhood’s major north-south thoroughfares: First Street, Jackson Street, and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Morrell Drive and Franklin Street are the main east-west connections. For travel beyond the south Michigan area, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is 60 miles east of the neighborhood.
