Faithful West Jackson community with diverse homes

During the early springtime in Queens, one of the most popular places to eat isn’t a restaurant at all. Locals and residents from around Jackson line up at the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church each year on Fridays during Lent for the church’s fish fry platters, available for dining at the church or via drive-through. “Fish fries are a big thing in Jackson, and there’s a pretty big turnout for those each year,” says Joan Grant, the administrative assistant at the church. With an identity still deeply influenced by the parish that’s been based in the area for more than 90 years, religious traditions and a contemporary city lifestyle go hand-in-hand in the community.
