The Queen of the Miraculous Medal School is also in the neighborhood, just south of the church. In the summertime, The Cascades and Sparks Foundation County Park host annual celebrations such as fireworks on the Fourth of July, the annual Palooza at the Falls block party and the Jackson Civil War Muster reenactment event. To the east near downtown Jackson, the Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival brings a variety of craft brews, ciders and food trucks to the American 1 Credit Union Event Center the first weekend of March, while the neighboring Jackson County Fairgrounds hosts its annual fair each August. Queens takes its name from the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church, a Catholic institution in the neighborhood with more than 1,500 parishioners and a local history dating back to gatherings inside local homes along Michigan Avenue in 1934. In addition to the church's daily mass, members can participate in lunch events, bible studies, youth groups, monthly Knights of Columbus meetings and other community outreach events. Seasonal celebrations include the popular Lenten fish fries alongside Christmas and Easter dinners. Other houses of worship in and immediately around the community include Jackson’s First Presbyterian, Temple Beth Israel, Immanuel Lutheran Church and Higby Street Church of Christ.
