Downtown Jackson events
Wildwood is close to downtown Jackson and the activities along Michigan Avenue, the main downtown road. One of the popular events happens on the fourth Friday of the month from 5 to 8 p.m. with an antique car show and concert from June through September. Various food trucks congregate at Michigan Avenue and Jackson Street for Food Truck Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Another cool thing downtown does is the Social District,” Gumbert says. “There are a certain number of businesses where you can go in and order a beer and take it with you to another participating business.” During select hours, Thursday through Sunday, the city permits restaurants and bars to serve patrons to-go beers and cocktails that can be carried outside.
Downtown Jackson is packed with local restaurants, local shops and art around every corner.
Residents of Wildwood know to head downtown to the Farmers Market for fresh local produce.

Hunt Club is in an old paper warehouse
Hunt Club used to be a paper warehouse, and it opened as a restaurant in 1979. A horse statue is there to greet visitors at the front, and inside, there are cozy tables, including some close to the fireplace, a popular place to be on cold Michigan winter days. The Parlour of Jackson is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor that also hosts an antique car show on the first Mondays of the month through September. There are plenty of shopping opportunities. Walmart Supercenter is across Brown Street from the western part of the neighborhood. It’s one of two anchor stores at Westwood Mall, the other being JCPenney. The indoor facility opened in the 1970s and has 35 stores, including an Applebee’s and a GameStop. Jackson Crossing is a few miles north on West Avenue, close to Interstate 94. It’s also an indoor mall with about 50 stores anchored by Target, Kohl’s, Best Buy and TJ Maxx.

Wildwood homes from the early 20th century
Two-story Craftsman, Victorian and bungalow houses from the 1900s to the 1920s are combined with the occasional new construction house consistent with the neighborhood's classic style. Prices range from $80,000 to $200,000. Those homes on the lower end of the range could need some updates. “As prices go in the Jackson area, this is lower than what you will get in the outlying townships around the city,” Gumbert says. Most homes have three to four bedrooms, with single-family homes averaging 1,400 square feet. Condos in the neighborhood are priced from $60,000 - $100,000. Some areas of the neighborhood have a more active sound score, as determined by the First Street website. Those are homes closer to major roads like West and Michigan Avenues. There are also railroad tracks at the neighborhood’s northern border, and the neighborhood is close to Jackson County Airport – Reynolds Field, so homeowners single-engine aircraft and corporate jets flying low.

Jackson High School has a 91% graduation rate
Students living in Wildwood can attend Jackson Public Schools or other districts within Jackson County as part of the county’s School of Choice Plan. Hunt Elementary School has a 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio and is rated a C-plus on Niche. Middle School at Parkside has nearly 800 students in grades six through eight, earning a C overall. Jackson High School students can earn college credits through the Jackson County Early College Program as early as freshman year. The school gets a B-plus Niche grade with a 91% graduation rate.

The Wildwood neighborhood is home to the Michigan Military Heritage Museum.
Michigan Military Heritage Museum
The Michigan Military Heritage Museum displays various artifacts from battles and conflicts throughout the state's history. It’s open on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Jackson County Fairgrounds is northeast of the neighborhood and is the home of the country fair, which takes place in early August. It’s been a part of the community for 170 years.
Cascade Falls has been around since 1932
While there are no parks within Wildwood, there are opportunities for recreation a short drive to the south and north. The Cascades, also known as Cascade Falls, is a waterfall structure illuminated after sunset. During the summer, concerts and events take place at the park. Fireworks are shot off from the falls on July 4th. This popular attraction has been around for over 90 years. It’s part of Sparks Foundation County Park and connected to the Cascades Golf Course. It’s a short drive north for indoor fun to do all forms of skating. There’s the version on the ice at Optimist Ice Arena or roller skating at the Allskate Fun Center.
The Cascades Golf Course is a full 18-hole course minutes from Wildwood.
The Optimistic Ice Rink provides locals with a fun weekend activity with open skate.

The JATA bus system operates extensively throughout Jackson, providing convenient and reliable transportation for commuters.
Jackson Area Transit Authority
According to the Walk Score website, the neighborhood is considered walkable, and those who rely on public transportation can catch the Jackson Area Transit Authority buses on Michigan Avenue. The buses make two stops at Westwood Mall: one at the main entrance to Walmart and the other at the mall's main entrance. The nearest hospital is Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, on the other side of downtown, about 10 minutes away.
