An economic hub for Jacksonville
In the suburbs about 10 miles south of downtown Jacksonville, the Baymeadows area is a sprawling economic hub with large business parks, manufacturing plants, diverse highway retail centers and planned residential developments nestled around wetland lakes and ponds. “Baymeadows is a great place to live if you like to shop and go out to eat,” says local professor and business owner Dr. Carletha Brinson.
Downtown Jacksonville is minutes away from the Baymeadows neighborhood.
Baymeadows residents can connect easily to the rest of the city via Interstate 95.

Close to St. Johns Town Center and The Avenues
Baymeadows is on the other side of the St. Johns River from Downtown Jacksonville. Despite the geographic barrier, Baymeadows is still closely tied to the city center and the rest of the region via different highways and bridges. “Originally downtown was the hub of business and commerce. But the Baymeadows corridor expanded it,” says Philip Amorgianos, a local realtor with Watson Realty Corp. “Baymeadows links a lot of the arteries that run north-south on the east side of the river.”Along Baymeadows Road, the community’s primary local thoroughfare, locals can shop for groceries at Rowes IGA, Publix Super Market or Patel Brothers. The many flavors of Jacksonville get their due in the eclectic cuisine offered in the area’s restaurants. For authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, Athenian Owl doesn’t disappoint with a vast menu and a relaxed atmosphere. At 5th Element Indian Restaurant, visitors can feast like a maharaja, dining on savory tandoori chicken and fragrant basmati rice followed by bright yellow scoops of mango ice cream. East on the J. Turner Butler Boulevard, or the JTB as locals call it, the community connects to St. Johns Town Center, a large and modern commercial district. Farther south along the Interstate 95 is a modern indoor shopping mall called The Avenues. Both shopping districts combined boast more than 300 storefronts and dining options, and include major retailers and restaurants such as Costco, Target, Nordstrom Rack, Texas de Brazil, Olive Garden and JCPenney.
There are many convenient shopping and dining locations near Baymeadows.

Close to the beach via J. Turner Butler Boulevard
The community stretches along the Interstate 95 and U.S. Highway 1 corridor. With rails paralleling the roads, freight shipping in the area has contributed to the metro area’s economy for several generations. But the residential population has grown as well over the past half-century, as new housing developments have risen along Baymeadows Road and J. Turner Butler Boulevard – the latter of which leads to Jacksonville’s beaches about 10 miles east. While most residents commute by car, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority operates several bus routes on the main roads.

Mediterranean and Farmhouse-style homes, condos and townhouses

Modern farmhouse-style homes, built in the early 2000s and later, often incorporate simple Craftsman design elements. Front walkways, two-car garages and backyard patios are standard features that add a neighborly character to the area. You'll also find tract homes, condos and apartments and the new Equinox townhouse development within the neighborhood. Condos and townhouses enter the market from $200,000 to $325,000. Potential buyers can expect houses to cost between $375,000 to $650,000, on average.
