Beauclerc
A mixture of home varieties
Set close together, homes in Beauclerc represent a wide array of styles and prices. "There's plenty of mid-century Craftsman styles from the 1960s and 1980s on large lots," Graham says. "There's also some new communities, so it's a mixture." Mid-century split-level and ranch-style homes with hipped roofs and pastel paint jobs can go for around $400,000, while multi-story French and American Colonial Revivals from the 1980s with large backyards and pools can go for as much as $800,000. Newly built four-bedroom Spanish Revival homes on the riverbanks with access to docks and boating facilities sell for between $1 million and $2 million. Throughout the neighborhood, narrow but well-maintained sidewalks are shaded by palm trees and sparse elms, allowing plenty of sunlight to shine. Yards and driveways are relatively uniform, although some riverfront properties are gated for extra security.A boulevard lined with local outlets
Restaurants and shops line San Jose Boulevard on the eastern border of Beauclerc. The nearby Mad O Caribbean and Seafood is known for authentic Jamaican cuisine, including jerk chicken, curry goat and oxtail served with rice, beans and cabbage. For date nights and special occasions, the independently-owned Chophouse Thirteen serves steak and seafood nearby. Thrift stores like Uptown Cheapskate Jacksonville and major grocery and big-box chains like Publix and Target also sit on the neighborhood's southern end.
An annual tradition of holiday cheer
The Beauclerc Christmas Lights, hosted at the Aldred family home, has become a community staple since it was featured in the 2021 season of The Great Christmas Light Fight. With over a million individual lights and multiple walk-through attractions, this glittering display may be visited anytime between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.After-school benefits
Local students may attend Beauclerc Elementary School, rated B-minus by Niche, and the C-rated Alfred I. Dupont Middle, where their after-school program includes homework assistance and athletic activities. Atlantic Coast High receives an A-minus rating from Niche and offers three Career Academy programs specializing in computer tech (including game design and computer science), digital video and engineering. Students who complete courses in these tracks can earn industry certifications that prepare them for their chosen career path.A park with open space and play equipment
Elizabeth "Betty" Wolfe Park, named after a local volunteer who lobbied for its creation, features open fields dotted with palm trees, small rock-climbing formations and a playground painted in bright primary colors. While most of the park's amenities are geared toward children, folks of all ages enjoy its walking trails, picnic tables and gazebos.Motoring off to the beach or downtown
Beauclerc residents have easy access to I-95 and I-295, allowing for a 12-mile commute to downtown Jacksonville. Jacksonville Beach is an 18-mile drive away, should residents wish to trade the scenic riverbanks for a day at the beach. Public transit in this part of the city is limited, so locals are mostly car-dependent.
