A community-focused neighborhood on Jacksonville's Westside
When traveling through Crystal Springs/Jacksonville Farms Terrace during the winter, locals are greeted by a house with an illuminating display. For several years, a private residence on Crystal Springs Road has created a holiday attraction that has become a time-honored tradition for the community. "I don't ever have to go to St. Augustine for the Nights of Lights because I have a unique jewel on Crystal Springs Road," says Janel Williams, Realtor with Watson Realty Corp., who lives nearby. "Imagine having a rough day, and you see the house as you drive down the road. I'm telling you, it is the most unique, beautiful holiday display I've ever seen." During the rest of the year, the area invites residents to enjoy outdoor recreation as well as Taco Tuesdays and Monday night trivia at local restaurants. The western side of the community, known as Jacksonville Farms Terrace, has more pockets of woodlands, a new housing development and industrial facilities like an Amazon Fulfilment Center.

Locals enjoy sports like tennis, swimming and horse-back riding
At over 30 acres, Crystal Springs Road Park is a go-to place for athletics and outdoor activities. The grounds include tennis and pickleball courts as well as a recently updated play area. The tree-covered trails attract bicyclists and residents walking their dogs. There's also a fishing pond with a boardwalk reaching across the water to cast out. Some use the onsite Julian Barrs Community Center to host birthday parties and other private events.
Williams says that when residents want to go to a water park but want to avoid traveling to the beach, they often visit the Cecil Field Recreation Complex and Equestrian Center. "It can get really hot in Florida, especially during the summer, so it's a great place to swim indoors," says Williams. The facility also offers youth summer camps and swim classes. The center hosts several equestrian competitions throughout the year, which Williams says is characteristic of the city's westside and the Crystal Springs/Jacksonville Farms community. The Westside Golfing Center is a relaxed driving range with lighting that allows for practice after sunset.

Locals often visit Publix Super Maret in Normandy Crossing Shopping Center, less than 5 miles east. The community has a modest number of national fast-food chains, but to sample the city's local flavors, look no further than Cinco De Mayo Authentic Mexican Restaurant. The establishment has a brightly colored setting and draws large crowds on Taco Tuesdays. Chubby's Wings, a regional chain, serves bar eats like fried pickles and pretzels. In the evening, people gather for Monday trivia nights and watch sporting events.

I am very familiar with the area that I live in. In terms of grocery stores, you can find the big names such as Publix and Winn Dixie. Our family shops most of the time at Wal-Mart for groceries because it is less expensive. My family and I like to search out local restaurants that aren't big name chains so we can give them business. Most of our experiences with the local places are good and even have a better quality of food and service than the franchise restaurants. Our area has everything we need but I feel like there is not enough variety.
