On the edge of Duval and Clay counties

At first glance, Duclay may seem like a secluded community on Jacksonville's westside. In this area, private farms and horse stables are woven between pockets of subdivisions. Ron and Janel Williams, Realtors with Watson Realty Corp., say it's typical to see someone riding down the road on horseback in this part of the city. "That's a common characteristic here. Very West Jax," says Ron Williams. However, the area is surrounded by active roadways such as Interstate 295 and the commercial route Blanding Boulevard. The eastern side of the community, called Duclay Forest, contains more greenery. Just beyond the neighborhood is the Jacksonville Naval Air Station, a major employer for the city.

Most homes built around the turn of the 21st century have homeowners associations. New townhouses are found inside Ashers Landing Subdivision, while detached houses rest inside Westland Station. Typically, houses built over the last 25 years cost between $200,000 to almost $400,000. Older homes often range in price between $100,000 to $300,000. The area also contains a manufactured homes community, Country Roads, and apartment complexes to the south.

Heading south for shopping and dining

Residents take to Blanding Boulevard, an active commercial roadway, lined with businesses and car dealerships. Most retail and dining await to the south near Interstate 295. Seafood lovers frequent Juicy Crab, a popular spot for shrimp and crab legs. Wicked Batter Café serves sandwiches, cupcakes and has a keto-friendly menu. Argyle Village shopping center includes a Publix Super Market while Walmart Supercenter and Costco are two miles away. The farmers market on Blanding Boulevard has been a staple of Jacksonville's westside since the 1970s. Although the vendor space has recently come under new management, locals can still find antiques, clothing items and fresh produce from Wednesdays to Saturdays.

The Westside Soccer League frequently uses the public fields. Ringhaver Park received significant upgrades in recent years, including a new pickleball court and accessible playground. Locals can head to Wayne B. Stevens Boat Ramp about 5 miles north to explore the nearby rivers.
