About 17 miles south of downtown Jacksonville, the once-forgotten ghost town of Greenland offers a quiet lifestyle on plenty of land. First established after the Civil War, the area’s development remained mostly stagnant until the 19th century, when the construction of the Halifax River Railway and turpentine production drove Greenland’s Economy. Today, descendants of the same forest pine trees used to make that turpentine cover this residential suburb, and the old Halifax train tracks run along the eastern side of the neighborhood near Philips Highway. Dana Hancock, a Realtor with Re/Max Specialists in the Greenland area says, “A lot of times, people end up here because of little to no HOA fees and bigger lots compared to the greater Jax area.”

Old St. Augustine Road, which runs along the south border of the neighborhood, can be used to get to nearby areas like Del Rio and Creekside.

Grocery stores like Walmart and Whole Foods are within a 7-mile drive away. About 10 miles north, The Avenues mall and St. John’s Town Center feature department stores like Dillard’s and JCPenney and southern chain restaurants like Miller’s Ale House and J.
