Homes from the 1970s through the early 2000s are prominent along the neighborhood's winding streets. Bi-level, tri-level, Cape Cod and Colonial Revival homes are priced between $300,000 and $575,000. There’s more yard to mow than some suburban neighborhoods, with lot sizes from a quarter to three-quarters of an acre. Condos, townhouses and multi-family homes range from $300,000 to $400,000. The average size of a house is 2,431 square feet, and the price is just over $150 a square foot.

Part of the Ice Age Trail skirts the neighborhood
The Ice Age Trail covers over 1,000 miles within Wisconsin, and a portion passes by Briar Crest. It is named because it generally follows the location of debris deposited from a glacier during the Ice Age. During warm weather, the trail is used by walkers, runners and bikers and skiing and snowshoeing are also allowed during the winter. The trail leads to Sheiffer Park, named after a former Janesville City Manager. It’s nearly 90 acres with scenic nature trails for bikers in warm weather or cross-country skiers in the winter. Playground equipment and baseball and softball fields are accessible at Woodcrest Park, about a mile north. Janesville is known for having an abundance of parks, so one is likely close. The city has over 60 parks and more than 2,600 acres of recreational opportunities.
Sheiffer Park in Janesville also has paved paths for residents to traverse.
The Ice Age trail runs through Briar Crest, and provides miles of hiking and biking paths.

Shopping close to Interstates 90 & 39
Getting shopping errands done won’t require a long trip. Sam’s Club and Walmart are located west of the neighborhood, closer to Interstates 90 and 39, combined in the Janesville area. A little bit to the south is Pine Tree Plaza, a 180,000-square-foot box-store shopping center with TJ Maxx, Old Navy and Petco. Best Buy is separate from the other stores, close to Route 14. A 16-screen movie theater is also part of the complex. Dining options include Cozumel Mexican Restaurant, a local favorite with authentic Mexican food and walls adorned with Mexican art. Chain restaurants around the area include Cracker Barrel and Texas Roadhouse. Grocery store options include Aldi, Hy-Vee and Festival Foods.
Big-box stores are abundant in the shopping district next to Briar Crest.
Briar Crest has access to Pine Tree Plaza, offering chain dining options like Starbucks.

Bessie the Cow still stands tall
Near the intersection of Milton Avenue and Morse Street on the north side of the road is a 16-foot-tall fiberglass cow statue that has been there since 1966. Around that time, a restaurant and gift shop called the Janesville Oasis sat alongside Milton Avenue. The cow symbolizes Wisconsin's rich dairy heritage, and after the oasis was shut down and demolished in 2006, public outcry demanded that the cow statue stay. Today, it stands in front of an Arby’s and a Menards Home Improvement Store.
Bessie the Cow near Briar Crest is a roadside attraction that's been in the area since 1966.
Briar Crest is also near a few local restaurants, like the bar and eatery Road Dawg Saloon.

A combination of Milton and Janesville schools
School-age children in the northern part of Briar Crest could be zoned for the School District of Milton, while those in the southern part of the neighborhood could attend classes in the School District of Janesville. The Milton District gets an A, while Janesville schools get a B. Harmony Elementary School is rated an A-minus on Niche with a 16-to-1 student-teacher ratio. Milton Middle School receives a B. Milton High School students can prep for college with the Academic and Career Planning program, giving families the information needed to make choices for life after high school. The school is rated a B and has a 97% graduation rate.
Milton High School is located at 114 West High Street.
Harmony Elementary in Janesville is located at 4244 E Rotamer Road.

Janesville Transit Agency stops close to shopping areas
The Janesville Transit Agency handles public transportation. The bus stops in the Pine Tree Plaza area, including the shopping center with Walmart Supercenter and Sam’s Club. The bus also stops at Mercyhealth North, a small clinic with specialty doctor offices. The area’s biggest hospital is Janesville Medical Center, about three miles south. The nearest airport is Southern Wisconsin Regional, a 12-mile drive south of town. It’s mainly used for general aviation. Dane County Regional Airport Truax Field is about 40 miles away in Madison. Delta, American and United flights serve more than a dozen destinations.
The closest bus stop to Briar Crest is at the Pine Tree Plaza, less than a mile away.
For local holistic shopping, Earthsong Books and Gifts is just a few miles from Briar Crest.
