Why Sewall's Point is representative of the Florida lifestyle

With the St. Lucie River on one side and the Indian River Lagoon on the other, Sewall's Point is defined by waterfront. The peninsula's long, narrow shape maximizes the number of properties on the water, and residents often live with a backyard pool or even a putting green just steps from a docked boat that's ready for a trip down the river or across the lagoon. The community is nearly surrounded by water, but a central shopping center and two bridges off the peninsula ensure daily conveniences aren't difficult to reach.

Custom homes with water and sunset views

Custom architecture and luxurious features define Sewall's Point's homes. These large houses sit on meticulously landscaped lawns full of small palm trees and other tropical plant life. The streets are narrow, and sidewalks are scarce, but there is plenty of room for evening walks with the dog or afternoon bike rides. Homes on the water often come with swimming pools where you can watch the sunset and long docks where you can moor a boat. "The waterfront lots are larger," say Anne Schmidt, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty and a longtime resident. "And the town is on a ridge, so the west side is higher up. Those waterfront homes are more desirable since they're deep-water lots 20 to 25 feet above sea level, perfect for docking big boats." Most recently sold homes fetched prices from the lower $800,000s to around $7 million. Listings can be priced well about $10 million.

Waterside recreation from Sewall's Point Park to Stuart Beach

Palms and tropical foliage surround Sewall's Point Park, home to a treehouse-themed playground as well as a gazebo and picnic tables that face the Indian River Lagoon. Indian RiverSide Park has plenty for kids to do, including an interactive splash fountain and The Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast. The park's pier extends more than 700 feet from the coastline, enabling anglers to drop their hooks in deep water. A bridge leads from Sewall's Point to South Hutchinson Island, where you can spend a day swimming and sunbathing at Stuart Beach.
