Newtown is the greener side of John’s Creek
Life in Newtown has always revolved around its countryside appeal. Before the first schoolhouse was established in the 1920s, this portion of Fulton County was open farmland where families harvested crops. Today, it’s much more built out with residential subdivisions and streets, though lush green landscapes remain. “I call it the best corner in North Fulton,” Atlanta Fine Homes Realtor Denise Sperier says. “The parks, the schools, the shopping and dining, the walkability, three grocery store options – you don’t find all of that in one corner very often.”
Newtown is a quiet neighborhood surrounded by nature in Johns Creek, Georgia.
The Fresh Market in Newtown offers a variety of organic and fresh produce at Old Alabama Square.

Two educational pathways in Johns Creek and Centennial High School
While Newtown Elementary is no longer in service, its educational spirit is kept alive through multiple school pathways in the community. Most of the neighborhood is zoned for Hillside Elementary, which has a nationally recognized parent-teacher organization and an A-minus rating on Niche. Haynes Bridge Middle has an A on Niche, as does Centennial High School. The northeastern end is zoned for Dolvin Elementary, while Autrey Mill Middle was rated among the top 5 middle schools in Fulton County. That educational pathway ends at Johns Creek High School, which offers nearly 30 advanced placement courses. All schools earned A ratings on Niche except Johns Creek, which earned an A-plus.

Newtown’s dog park and pavilion
Newtown Park is the neighborhood’s signature 46-acre park with tennis and pickleball courts, baseball and softball fields and walking trails. The Newtown Dream Dog Park is a one-acre play area with artificial turf, obstacles and sprinklers and was rated the second-best dog park in the nation by “USA Today.” Summer concerts are held at the 10,000-square-foot Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater, which seats 1,400 on its terraced lawn. “Every day, they’ll have a public exercise class like yoga or Zumba,” Sperier says. “It’s a great park – I walk around it every day.”

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
