Southeast Joplin neighborhood near major roadways
In southeast Joplin, Jamestown is a residential area experiencing a resurgence, from home renovations to a growing commercial scene. This residential pocket is surrounded by noisy train tracks and major roadways, namely Rangeline Road and 32nd Street. Besides convenient transportation routes, these roadways are also shopping and dining centers with more and more businesses moving in. "The development of that part of Joplin is off the charts," says Gary Mishler, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Elevate.
New Traditional and ranch-style homes with modern interiors
The neighborhood has a blend of midcentury and contemporary architecture. Houses typically average between 1,000 and 1,500 square feet and sit on around a quarter of an acre. Many of these are New Traditional properties dating to the 1980s and '90s. Prices typically range between $200,000 and $225,000. The convenient location helps to boost the neighborhood's resale market. Homes generally are on the market for about half the national average of 44 days. "A lot of the area is being updated," Mishler says. "People who flip are coming in and modernizing the interiors." Grassy front lawns throughout the neighborhood get shade from overhanging maple trees that bring greenery in the spring and summer.
Mid century ranch style homes are readily available in Jamestown.

Award-winning educators at Kelsey Norman Elementary
The Joplin School District assigns students to elementary and middle schools based on their home address, while all teens attend Joplin High School. Most neighborhood students start at Kelsey Norman Elementary School, roughly a mile west, which earns a B-minus from Niche and a positive reputation in town. In 2024, the Joplin Chamber of Commerce awarded two Kelsey Norman educators with Golden Apple Awards for excellence in teaching. "It is an excellent elementary school," Mishler says, noting its proximity. "There are no major roads that go around the school, which makes it safer to walk to and from it." Kids can progress to South Middle School, which earns a B-minus, and Joplin High, which earns a C-plus.
Kelsey Norman Elementary School is a popular schooling option in the area.
Joplin High School is located in south central Joplin.

New restaurants and entertainment on Rangeline Road
The neighborhood is surrounded by shops, restaurants and grocery stores on Rangeline and 32nd. "Most of that stuff in Joplin is on the south side of Rangeline," says Mishler. Sam's Club, Texas Roadhouse and Outback Steakhouse are staples in the area. Chick-fil-A and Menards are recent additions, and a movie theater is in the works. There are also a handful of local options, such as Suzanne's Natural Foods, which has a salad and a smoothie bar. Finn's, which calls itself a “semi-fine dining” restaurant, serves steak and seafood dinners in a relaxed yet upscale interior.
Suzanne's Natural Foods is a favorite local stop for whole foods in Jamestown.

Local flavors at Third Thursday
Downtown Joplin, 4 miles north, brings the city together for street fests featuring live music, food trucks and shopping. Third Thursday is the city's premier event, occurring monthly from March through October. Wildcat Park also hosts seasonal events centered around nature. May the Forest Be With You is an Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration combining educational and entertaining activities such as scavenger hunts, lawn games, live music and food trucks.
Out-of-town travel on Interstate 44
Nearby roadways create connections throughout the region, with Connecticut Avenue taking residents north to the city center and 32nd Street connecting to Joplin's medical district. Freeman Hospital West, 3 miles west, is the city's main hospital, housing a Level II trauma center. The Joplin VA Clinic opened in the neighborhood in 2019, offering primary care, mental health and other services for veterans across the Four States area. Interstate 44 connects to cities outside Joplin, such as Springfield, 71 miles east. "The great thing about Joplin is, we're really at the center of the country as far as going east or west," Mishler says. "So with I-44 running right through town, you've got a major thoroughfare that can take you pretty much anywhere you want to go in the U.S."
