Multifamily housing options

"There is a section of Knollwood where people are using them as rental homes. Student homes, student housing," says Realtor Suzanne Sloan of Five Star Real Estate. Condos with community amenities like pools and tennis courts start at $115,000 in the neighborhood, while Colonial-style homes begin at $220,000. There are many newly constructed townhomes with three bedrooms and two-car garages priced around $400,000. Duplex homes cost approximately $570,000. Minimal traditional-style homes start at $150,000, and contemporary multifamily homes are available for $302,000. Larger multifamily houses can exceed $1 million. The median price of homes is $111,250. Despite the different housing styles, inventory in Knollwood is low, similar to Kalamazoo overall, says Sloan. "We haven't seen that stereotypical balanced market of six months of inventory. I've been in business for 17 years, other than during the recession. We haven't had six months of inventory," Sloan says.
