Young families buy homes in Southside
The Southside neighborhood features a variety of housing options, many of which are older homes that have been remodeled. “I would say traditionally, it’s more of a blue-collar area,” says Ben Barber, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty - Kalamazoo Market Center. “There is a lot of revitalization happening here. It attracts younger families and offers many starter homes due to more accessible pricing compared to neighborhoods like Winchell.” Housing styles include Colonial Revival homes priced between $312,500 and $410,000, Folk Victorian homes ranging from $325,000 to $475,000, and Cape Cod and Craftsman styles around $290,000. Dutch Colonial homes, ranging from $230,000 to $285,000, add to the architectural diversity. The median home price is $129,900. “We see a lot of flippers interested in these neighborhoods because they can buy homes cheaper,” Barber adds.
