Barry Harbour offers quieter living just outside of Kansas City
About 20 minutes outside of downtown Kansas City is Barry Harbour — a growing community stationed toward the southern end of Platte County in proximity to an array of entertainment and shopping destinations. Centrally located between the city and the airport, Barry Harbour residents enjoy all of KC's amenities without dealing with the accompanying hustle and bustle. "It's a great location right off the highway. It has a little pond there and it's a nice, quaint neighborhood as well. It's a little bit hilly too, so it's very pretty," says local Realtor Lisa Beckham of United Real Estate Kansas City, who has sold dozens of homes around the Kansas City metropolitan area. "A house I sold there, they would have deer hop the fence and come in their backyard, so that's kind of fun."

Barry Harbour's cul-de-sac-heavy streets boast a wide variety of home styles. Split-level and ranch-style homes are popular, though larger colonial-style builds with brick facades are also common. A smaller contemporary cottage can price between $200,000 and $300,000 while larger properties with four or more bedrooms often top out closer to $500,000. The housing market in Barry Harbour is very competitive with some homes selling within a week of being listed. Apartment complexes can also be found on the east side along North Thomas Meyers Drive.

Students in Barry Harbour are served by the Platte County R-III School District. Children can go to Barry Elementary School or its neighboring Pathfinder Elementary School — both of which earn an overall grade of A-minus from Niche — before moving on to the newly constructed Platte Purchase Middle School off North Platte Purchase Drive. Teens can attend Platte County High School 15 miles northwest off Branch Street in Platte City. Earning a Niche grade of B-plus, the high school offers a wide range of extracurricular clubs and organizations including National Honor Society and FBLA as well as a competitive athletics program that won a baseball state championship in 2022. "The only high school in the area is in Platte City, which is a pretty long way for people's kids to drive or for the buses to come to the high school," Beckham says. "I know that they're in the works for trying to get another Platte City high school. I think they're just trying to make room for everybody."
