Barry Harbour
Barry Harbour offers both single-family homes and apartments
Barry Harbour's cul-de-sac-heavy streets boast a wide variety of home styles. Split-level and ranch-style homes are popular, though larger colonial-style builds with brick facades are also common. A smaller contemporary cottage can price between $200,000 and $300,000 while larger properties with four or more bedrooms often top out closer to $500,000. The housing market in Barry Harbour is very competitive with some homes selling within a week of being listed. Apartment complexes can also be found on the east side along North Thomas Meyers Drive.A growing population is leading to the addition of new schools
Students in Barry Harbour are served by the Platte County R-III School District. Children can go to Barry Elementary School or its neighboring Pathfinder Elementary School — both of which earn an overall grade of A-minus from Niche — before moving on to the newly constructed Platte Purchase Middle School off North Platte Purchase Drive. Teens can attend Platte County High School 15 miles northwest off Branch Street in Platte City. Earning a Niche grade of B-plus, the high school offers a wide range of extracurricular clubs and organizations including National Honor Society and FBLA as well as a competitive athletics program that won a baseball state championship in 2022. "The only high school in the area is in Platte City, which is a pretty long way for people's kids to drive or for the buses to come to the high school," Beckham says. "I know that they're in the works for trying to get another Platte City high school. I think they're just trying to make room for everybody."Barry Platte Park serves as a hub for Barry Harbour locals
Barry Harbour residents have a community park right in their backyard — literally. Barry Platte Park sits just north of the neighborhood off Old Stagecoach Road and serves as a top spot for picnicking and friendly playdates. Local athletes flock to the park to play baseball and volleyball while gardeners show off their green thumb at the community garden. Just east of the neighborhood off Barry Road is PowerPlay Entertainment Center, which offers go-karts, laser tag and arcade games, while The Sandbox contains several pickleball and sand volleyball courts. Locals can also hike along the 8-mile Line Creek Trail, which offers picturesque views of the county's wooded surroundings.Shopping and restaurant options are plentiful along Barry Road
The Sandbox isn't just a hotspot for pickleball and volleyball players. It also draws foodies for its versatile food and drink menu. The eatery is known for its burgers and margaritas as well as brunch staples on Sundays. Additional chain restaurants including Olive Garden and Red Lobster can be found along Barry Road. To make a home-cooked meal, residents can pick up ingredients from the nearby Target at Twin Creeks, which also contains retail stores from Kohl's and Ross to Ulta and Petco.Equidistant to the city and the airport
Barry Harbour is not walkable, so locals will need a car to get from place to place. Luckily, the neighborhood does offer solid access to major roads and highways. Highway 169 runs along Barry Harbour's east side and feeds directly into downtown Kansas City 13 miles to the south while the RideKC bus features multiple stops along Barry Road. Kansas City International Airport also sits just 10 miles northwest, making for largely painless travels to the terminal.
