Aptly named, Center City is within 3 miles of some of Kansas City's most popular shopping and entertainment districts. This 12-block area 3 miles from downtown Kansas City is ripe for the redevelopment that's been taking place in recent years.
"Most of our clients are 30-something millennials that desire the diversity urban environments bring, whether culturally, socially or financially," says Realtor and developer Jim Dilley of Compass Realty Group.
Center City is within walking distance of the Martini Corner area, a strip of restaurants, bars and retail. Tuesday is Trivia Night at Brick House KC, where teams with names like For Whom the Bell Curves and Oltrivia Newton-John compete for that night's prize money. Sister Anne's Records and Coffeeshop is the place to go to peruse records and enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee. Popular shopping and entertainment districts such as Crown Center, Old Westport and the Country Club Plaza are all within 3 miles of Center City. Grocery shopping is within walking distance at Save A Lot on Troost. The neighborhood's CAP Crime Index score is 5, compared to the U.S. average of 4.

Homes from Troost to Paseo, 31st to Armour Boulevard
Locals live along 12 square blocks from Troost to Paseo and 31st Street to Armour Boulevard. Newer construction has added variety to housing options.
Roads and sidewalks show wear through cracks, and while lawns are often small, they sometimes have side-yard gardens. The predominant architectural styles are bungalows and Craftsman. New construction trends lean more toward modern styles. Most homes here sell for between $140,000 and $200,000. "They sell as fast as we can make them," Dilley says. Buyers should be aware that the community is prone to flooding. Homes in the southern portion of the community are at the highest risk of flood damage.

Urban Neighborhood Initiative offers property tax breaks to spur revitalization
Kansas City's Urban Neighborhood Initiative has created opportunities for growth and community empowerment through several programs, including the housing-tax abatement program. The initiative's "Legacy Crossing" focuses on the continued revitalization of the Troost corridor. It has also helped the neighborhood's ecology by installing a community rain garden that captures and reuses stormwater runoff.
