Kansas City’s southern suburb of East Meyer 6, nestled between the prestigious Troost Avenue and the scenic Paseo Boulevard, presents homebuyers with a wide selection of housing styles, with historical flavor and persisting charm.

This neighborhood draws its name from August Meyer, the urban planner behind KC’s system of 135 miles of parkways and boulevards, laid out as part of the “City Beautiful” movement of the late 19th century. East Meyer 6 continues to bear this legacy in the form of its many historical homes, including chimneyed houses dating to the 1910s, at the tail end of the “City Beautiful” era of urban renewal. Just a few blocks away from these turn-of-the-century marvels are several cottages dating to the 1930s, offering another classic aesthetic for anyone looking to live in a home with a story.

In addition to these older homes, East Meyer 6 offers more modern, single-floor residences such as bungalows and ranch-style houses, as well as larger family homes in Colonial and contemporary styles. The neighborhood’s tradition of architectural creativity carries through to today. East Meyer 6 has a median home price of approximately $200,000, slightly below the city average of $230,000.

History lovers will also appreciate the Civil War history within this neighborhood. The Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery includes 75 unmarked graves for Confederate soldiers who lost their lives at the 1864 Battle of Westport, the “Gettysburg of the West,” as well as an obelisk commemorating the battle. A marker within the cemetery relates the story of General Joseph Shelby’s “last stand” at Forest Hill during the battle.

Local Realtor Mary Beth Schwartz of Keller Williams emphasizes the neighborhood’s “excellent location,” which is “only minutes from the downtown Waldo shops and restaurants.” East Meyer 6’s location along East 75th Street puts residents within 2 miles and a five-minute drive from the shopping district at the heart of the Waldo neighborhood. At the junction of 75th Street and Wornall Road, this shopping district includes an Aldi grocery store, CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, plus several popular restaurants. Additionally, the New Landing Mall is located just around 2 miles and a five-minute drive to the north, offering more retail conveniences and eateries.

The Epicurean Lounge, one of Kansas City’s most popular nightclubs -- and better known as “the Ep” -- is located along Troost Avenue in western East Meyer 6. This high-end club, which dates back to 1979, is known for its frequent “Kansas City two-step” dancing events, accompanied by music, food, drinks, and a dress code that makes the Epicurean Lounge stand out as a chic venue for a night out, Kansas City-style.

East Meyer 6’s students attend schools within the Kansas City 33 School District, including John T. Hartman Elementary School and Southeast High School.

This neighborhood’s proximity to Highway 71 puts East Meyer 6 within 10 miles and a 20-mile drive from downtown, as well as within 6 miles and a 15-minute drive from the Old Westport shopping district. While far removed from the vibrant city center and bustling shopping plazas north of Brush Creek, East Meyer 6 benefits from its location near several major roads.
