Invested in community and neighborly bonds
Ivanhoe Northeast sits at the western end of Kansas City’s East Side, embracing the bustling Highway 71 and the commercial hub of Prospect Avenue. This proximity to a major thoroughfare and opportunities for outdoor pastimes in the core of Kansas City make Ivanhoe Northeast stand out among other neighborhoods of East Side KC. While Ivanhoe battled high crime rates and dirty streets in the 1990s, a wide range of neighborhood clean-up efforts, youth and senior services and affordable housing programs have transformed Ivanhoe into a close-knit community where neighbors are invested in where they live. “There are a lot of other neighborhoods in Kansas City that maybe have additional amenities that Ivanhoe doesn’t have, but for those communities, they’re really not connected to each other,” says Alana Henry, the Interim Executive Director for the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council. “You can have a really packaged home somewhere but not know your neighbors, or you can pick your home in a vibrant community that is always looking forward to progress.”
