Walkable community with rich history
Volker is named for Kansas City philanthropist William Volker, who donated much of his fortune in the early 1900s to help struggling Kansas Citians get a leg up. The neighborhood continues to bear Volker’s kind influence as a walkable, dog-friendly place with an engaged neighborhood association. Located 3 miles south of downtown, Volker straddles both sides of the W. 39th Street business district. Volker is a convenient place to call home, offering a blend of residential charm and commercial vitality, especially if you work or study at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KU Med), which is right across the street on the Kansas side of the state line. KU Med is one of 15 Tier 1 medical schools ranked the best in primary care by U.S. News & World Report.
