The district doesn’t currently offer School Choice, though some residents have been pushing for it as of late 2024. In April of 2025, the school board voted to close three schools over the next several years: Queensborough Elementary, Clark Academy and Blanchard Elementary. Nearby schools will absorb the roughly 750 students affected by the closures.

Eddie D. Jones Park features miles of hiking and biking trails through the forest. It also offers a playground, shaded cornhole court and picnic tables. Regular events take place in the park, including nature walks, foraging lessons and a summer camp for local kids.
Residents head into Shreveport to run errands. Big box stores like Walmart, Kroger and Lowe’s are about 20 miles away on Louisiana Highway 169 and Colquitt Road. Four Forks-Preston is less than 30 miles from Carthage, thanks to its location close to the Texas border. The closest hospital in Louisiana is Willis Knighton Health’s southern campus, about 18 miles away. For more shopping, dining and entertainment, residents head 30 miles to Downtown Shreveport.
