Yet, for how isolated Four Forks-Preston might seem, it is just 30 miles from downtown Shreveport.

Convenient access to services and amenities in Louisiana and Texas

Eddie D. Jones Park features miles of hiking and biking trails through the forest. It also offers a playground, shaded cornhole court and picnic tables. Regular events take place in the park, including nature walks, foraging lessons and a summer camp for local kids.

Residents head into Shreveport to run errands. Big box stores like Walmart, Kroger and Lowe’s are about 20 miles away on Louisiana Highway 169 and Colquitt Road. Southwest Shreveport also offers a mix of restaurants, from national chains like Zaxby’s to local favorites like Johnny’s Catfish & Seafood, which has been serving the area since 2002.

Four Forks-Preston is less than 30 miles from Carthage, thanks to its location close to the Texas border. Carthage offers more locally-owned restaurants and a hospital, UT Health Carthage, which includes an emergency room. The closest hospital in Louisiana is Willis Knighton Health’s southern campus, about 18 miles away. For more shopping, dining and entertainment, residents head 30 miles to Downtown Shreveport.

Strong ratings and upcoming changes for Caddo Parish Public Schools

Caddo Parish Public Schools serves the community and rates a B on Niche. Some of the schools zoned to the area are Fairfield Elementary Magnet, which is rated an A-minus, A-minus-rated Caddo Middle Magnet and C-plus-rated Huntington High. The district doesn’t currently offer School Choice, though some residents have been pushing for it as of late 2024. In April of 2025, the school board voted to close three schools over the next several years: Queensborough Elementary, Clark Academy and Blanchard Elementary. Nearby schools will absorb the roughly 750 students affected by the closures.
