Just a mile north from the shores of Lake Washington, you’ll find yourself in the suburban hills of Northshore Summit in Kenmore. This predominantly residential neighborhood bursts of greenery with mature pines and firs surrounding single-family homes on slopy yards along steep streets.

You’ll find many Cape Cods and Craftsman-style houses ranging from $1 to $1.5 million. These mid-century homes typically offer around 2,000 to 4,500 square feet of living space with attached garages to fit two to three cars. With the neighborhood being so hilly, you may even get a view of Lake Washington from your front porch or back deck. Along with the scenic beauty, Northshore Summit is loved for its neighborly atmosphere. Eva Croasdale, Realtor with Windermere Real Estate, has called the area home for about 15 years. She says, “It’s like the dictionary definition of a suburb. It’s very well kept, and people take great pride in their homes. It’s also known for being the best place to go on Halloween. Kids will come from all over just to trick-or-treat there.”

When they’re not filling their bags with candy, kids are studying through the Northshore School District, ranked the 6th-best in the state by Niche. Students start at B-plus-rated Kenmore Elementary and go on to Kenmore Middle and Inglemoor High, both of which receive an A grade from Niche. Inglemoor is ranked the 25th-best high school in Washington and offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.

“The whole area is a hill, but the peak of it is Northshore Summit Park, and that’s like the crown jewel of the neighborhood,” Croasdale says. Locals enjoy visiting the neighborhood’s namesake park for picnics, walking on gravel trails surrounded by nature and having fun on the playground. For more outdoor adventures, head to Wallace Swamp Creek Park to stroll through the woods and over creek bridges. About a mile south, you can visit Log Boom Park on the northern tip of Lake Washington, offering even more incredible sights. Stop by to fish off the dock, relax on the beach or rent a kayak while watching seaplanes land and take off from Kenmore Air, which has planes that can take you all over the Northwest. The beautiful views from Log Boom Park also come alive during the annual Fourth of July fireworks show, which Croasdale sponsors.

You don’t have to travel far for shopping, dining and entertainment with Downtown Kenmore just a mile from the neighborhood. It’s home to the Hangar, a community gathering space where locals can get coffee from the café, relax by a fireplace and play on the splash pad. Locals also like hanging out at Stoup Brewing Company, one of three locations in the Seattle metro serving pub grub and its award-winning craft beer. Buddah Bruddah is another popular Seattle chain, known for its mix of Asian and Hawaiian dishes. For everyday shopping needs, head to Safeway. And when you’re looking for some indoor fun, knock down some pins at Kenmore Lanes.

“We call it half an hour from everywhere,” says Croasdale, “because we have an equal commute to Seattle and Bellevue.” Both cities are 15 miles south, with Seattle on the west side of Lake Washington and Bellevue on the east side, making Northshore Summit a convenient place to live if you have to commute to either city.
