A neighborhood between two bridges
Flanked by the Blue Bridge and the Cable Bridge, the Kennewick, Washington neighborhood of Bridge to Bridge packs main-street shopping, leafy residential areas and river views into a compact neighborhood along the Columbia River. With the popular Columbia Park and the downtown shopping of Kennewick Avenue just two blocks away, Bridge to Bridge lets residents access some of Kennewick’s greatest features while living in a quiet, historic area.
Dining, from a public market to a pub
Bridge to Bridge may border downtown Kennewick, but this neighborhood has a small shopping scene of its own. Abby Hedges, the Visitor Services Specialist with Visit Tri-Cities, says, "If you’re into wine, the Columbia Gardens Urban Wine & Artisan Village has a bunch of different wineries. Another draw is the Kennewick Public Market, a big warehouse that has a whole bunch of vendors inside, from wineries to local boutiques and food." This indoor flea market sells everything from comic books and movie posters to Mexican and Cuban cuisine. Bridge to Bridge taps into the Tri-Cities’ famous brewing scene by inviting beer aficionados to travel to the other end of the Public Market and stop by the Ice Harbor Brewing Company. This brewpub and sports bar regularly draws large crowds due to its sporty décor, its craft beers and dishes like fish and chips. Groceries can be found in downtown Kennewick at the Red Apple Market and the Grocery Outlet.
Vintage homes with competitive prices
For such a small community, Bridge to Bridge’s streetscapes are diverse in both character and aesthetics. Columbia Drive serves as the main transportation artery of this community, and residential streets branch off from this major road, leading to the manufactured home community on Washington Place and the leafy front yards and ranch-style homes along Grand Ronde Avenue. Many of the homes in Bridge to Bridge date back to the 1920s. However, newer homes add a breath of fresh air and renewal to this historic section of Kennewick. Nearly every home was built in the ranch or bungalow style, and prices range from $160,000 to $400,000.
Lion pride at Kennewick High School
Students can start their education at Amistad Elementary School, given a C-minus rating by Niche, before going on to attend the C-rated Park Middle School and the B-rated Kennewick High School. Kennewick High School is recognized by Niche as being among the top 100 college prep public high schools in the state, while also featuring strong music and sports programs. Kennewick’s “Lions” athletics programs are a source of great pride for the community, with the school having its own fight song and counting two NFL players among its alumni.
Riverfront recreation at Columbia Park
Just beyond the Blue Bridge, the 450-acre Columbia Park is a center of outdoor recreation in the Tri-Cities region. "It's right along the river, and it's very pretty at sunset, especially by the lighthouse. Even people who don't live down there make the trip to watch the sunset, while people also go for bike rides, walk, and visit Clover Island." Visitors can stroll 4.5 miles of waterfront walkways - the Columbia Park Trail - and watch dozens of waterfowl relax in the Columbia River, while a disc golf course at the far end offers another opportunity for exercise. "They also have the Playground of Dreams and a roped-off spot for kids to swim," Hedges says. This park is also home to a war memorial and a statue commemorating Sacagawea, the namesake of the riverfront Sacagawea Heritage Trail, which runs 23 miles through the park and beyond. Fruitland Park, at the heart of the community, offers a small playground area for local kids, while the Zintel Creek Golf Course is known for both its public course and for its fine dining.
Crossing bridges and riding buses
Bridge to Bridge derives its name from the two historic bridges and beloved local landmarks that straddle either end of the community. The Pioneer Memorial Bridge, affectionately nicknamed the “Blue Bridge,” was built in 1951 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. This bridge carries Highway 395 from Kennewick to Pasco. The Ed Hendler Bridge, nicknamed the “Cable Bridge,” was built in 1978 and connects Kennewick to Pasco’s downtown area. Both bridges offer commuters a 3-mile drive into downtown Pasco and a 4.5-mile drive to the airport. Downtown Kennewick is just around the corner and walkable within a half-mile stroll. Local bus routes provide access to the rest of the Tri-Cities area, offering an approximately 25-minute commute across the river to downtown Pasco. Also in Pasco is Lourdes Health, the regional general hospital, which is a mere 3-mile drive from Bridge to Bridge.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
