Brighton remains true to its agricultural and rural roots
As the cities, counties and municipalities around it steadily grow in population, Brighton holds tight to its agricultural roots and rustic charm. "Brighton is a rural town, and we have worked hard to maintain our rural character and beauty," says Susan Crane, chairwoman for The Town of Brighton, who has lived there for over 50 years. "It's a very pretty town." Farms, fields and plenty of cows are standard sights, as there are many operational farms in Brighton. "We are still classic America's Dairyland," Crane says. Outside the farms are fields, streams, forests and homes surrounded by grassy lawns. "I think people who come to Brighton appreciate the beauty and want to live near it even if they're not part of the agriculture industry themselves," Crane says.
Brighton is known for its beautiful scenery and gently rolling farmland.

Farmhouses, barns and midcentury home styles on large plots of land
While a few new traditional homes are spread throughout Brighton, most homes are from the late 1800s to the 1970s. "We are home to lots of old barns and old farms, and yet, we have vibrant new people moving in and beautiful homes," Crane says. Narrow, gravel driveways lead to Cape Cods, farmhouses, ranch-style homes and Colonial Revivals with a median lot size of over 5 acres. The area is spread out, with no traditional neighborhoods or suburban developments. Homes are rarely bought and sold but range in value from $260,000 to $1.2 million, with an average value of $540,000.

Plenty of outdoor activity thanks to Richard Bong State Recreation Area
Little League teams play at Brightondale Baseball Complex, and golfers play a round at Brighton Dale Links next door. The public golf course has 45 holes on softly rolling hills scattered with ponds. "We are also blessed to have quite a bit of conservation land in Brighton. So, you'll see the preservation of those conservation corridors," Crane says. "It's that beauty that attracts people to live here." Richard Bong State Recreation Area, called Bong by locals, has preserved land for camping, fishing, hunting and hiking. There are designated trails for horseback riding, ATVs and self-guided nature trails. Rocket and aircraft enthusiasts can fly their creations at the model airplane field.

Small and large Wisconsin cities are a reasonable drive away
Brighton residents rely entirely on cars to get around as there is no public transportation. Fortunately, there is little traffic in the no-stoplight community, and Wisconsin Highway 142 is nearby, connecting the area to Burlington, a small city 9 miles northwest. Highway 142 goes east to Interstate 94, a main highway of Southeastern Wisconsin. "We're a little over an hour from downtown Chicago and about an hour or a hair less from downtown Milwaukee," Crane says. Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is 30 miles northeast, and the nearest hospital, Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital, is 13 miles southeast.Brighton has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10. The national average score is 4.
