A Kenosha community with a rich auto manufacturing history
The area of Endee is within Kenosha, the fourth-most populated city in the state of Wisconsin. Endee is a residential neighborhood set around a park with the same name. During the mid-20th century, the state's 14 Lake Michigan port cities served the thriving auto manufacturing industry with cargo services and harbor facilities, and Kenosha was the one farthest south. The Endee Company Inc. was associated with Kenosha's port.
"The area is near a main thoroughfare — Washington Road and 38th Street — which stretches from the lakefront to I-94 and west to Burlington," Dennis DuChene, president of Visit Kenosha, the city's official travel resource, says. Endee is about 3 miles west of downtown, which features shops, restaurants, museums and HarborPark's lakeside promenade.
Midcentury single-family homes and duplexes
Single-family homes make up the bulk of the real estate, though duplexes are common. Most houses were constructed between the 1940s and the '70s. Examples include ranch-style homes and Cape Cods, ranging from $165,000 for a three-bedroom with less than 1,000 square feet to $335,000 for a home with twice the space. The residential streets have sidewalks and curved curbs, front uniformly spaced lots and many residents enjoy driveways and garages.
This Endee street is filled with colorful ranch-style dwellings.
Prospective Endee residents can find multifamily housing options, including duplexes.

Casual eateries, a nearby grocery store and Kenosha HarborMarket
Endee residents might head to 52nd Street for shops, casual eateries and grocery stores like Los Corrales. For more variety, downtown, with its shops, restaurants and museums, is only about 3 miles away. Also close by, uptown, soon to be transformed as part of the city's $400-million-plus revitalization plan, will be a conveniently located mixed-use development with a grocery store and a restaurant. It's a quick trip to Kenosha HarborMarket, a year-round European-style market open on Saturdays.
Kenosha's annual events
Kenoshans have plenty to occupy their time all year round. Kris Kochman, community relations liaison for the city, says annual events, primarily by the lakeside, are very popular. Many families have a yearly tradition of attending Celebrate America, a multiday Fourth of July festival. The Sunday prior to Independence Day, there's the Civic Veterans Parade. Other top events include the Kenosha Classic Cruise-In car show, the Outta Site Kite Flight and the Snow Daze Festival. Over 50 ice sculptures and a free skating rink bring out residents despite the cold.
Public School and nearby colleges
Kids may attend public schools like Strange Elementary, graded C-plus by Niche, which lists it as having a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 1. Next in line, Mahone Middle and Bradford High both have B-minus grades. Bradford is notable for its championship-level athletics program and as the sole district school offering an Academic Decathlon.
Less than 2 miles from Endee, Gateway Technical College offers 75 career programs and holds annual community events, like the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Celebrate Earth Day. Lee Colony, manager of communications and media relations for the college, says, "The Center for Sustainable Living has very popular public workshops." Another option for higher education, Carthage College, is a private liberal arts school approximately 4 miles away on a lakeside campus.
Curtis A. Strange Elementary is also known as Strange Elementary.
Over 900 students learn at Mahone Middle School.
Bradford High School receives a B-minus rating from Niche.

Kenosha Sports Complex is popular for youth baseball games.
Community parks and recreational spaces
There are over 70 parks in the city, so most Kenosha residents have one close to home, even in walking distance. Endee Park sits in the approximate middle of the neighborhood, surrounded by residential streets. "The park is home to a sports complex, with baseball diamonds used for youth sports," DuChene says. For even more athletic amenities, just to the east, there's Kenosha Sports Complex, also known as the Dr. James L. Santarelli Sports Complex, featuring baseball fields and a batting cage.
Endee residents can take advantage of Kenosha Area Transit's public transportation options.
Kenosha Area Transit, Kenosha Metra Station and commutes
Kenosha Area Transit buses are one way to get around. For travel by car, Endee is close to state routes 31, 32 and 50 and not far from interstates. Milwaukee is about 40 miles north, heading south; it's 65 miles to Chicago. There's no need to drive there; trains embark from Kenosha Station, the only Metra stop in Wisconsin. For those who have a pilot's license or want to charter a private flight, Kenosha Regional Airport is a city-owned facility for both corporate and public aviation.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
