Walkable streets and surrounding parks
The small, quiet neighborhood of Grant sits half a mile west of the shores of Lake Michigan and within walking distance of Petzke Park’s notable Kenosha Dream Playground and Washington Park. “It’s a gem of a neighborhood filled with families who often walk their dogs and children along the peaceful streets,” says Tony Bitar, owner and Realtor with Tony Bitar Real Estate Solutions, whose office is in the neighborhood. “It also offers some of the most desirable and affordable homes on the city’s north side.” Though the neighborhood offers an alternative to Kenosha’s hustle and bustle, the city and the Harbor District are only a few miles away, allowing residents to partake in festivals, dining and shopping there. That doesn’t mean, however, that conveniences aren’t close by. Family-owned and longstanding restaurants are within the neighborhood.

Petzke Park's Dream Playground
In the community’s northeastern corner, Petzke Park’s 15,000-square-foot Dream Playground is one of the most frequented outdoor attractions in the city. “The Kenosha Dream Playground is a cherished spot for families and is busy spring through fall,” Bitar says. “They play soccer and lacrosse there as well.” Washington Park's nine-hole municipal golf course and velodrome for cyclists border to the south. A mile east, Simmons Island Beach runs along Lake Michigan with a pier out to the Kenosha Lighthouse Studio. Formerly known as North Pier Lighthouse, the late artist John Burhani bought the lighthouse from the U.S. Coastguard in 2011 and used it as a private painting space. The lighthouse still displays his artwork and now serves as a community resource for southeastern Wisconsin fine artists and musicians. The Civil War and Kenosha Public Museums neighbor Harbor Park to the south, providing indoor options when cold Wisconsin winters roll in.

Grant's ranch and Cape Cod styles
Grant’s wide residential streets are lined with boxelder maple and red oak trees. Narrow sidewalks run beneath their canopies through one-car driveways and connect to paved walkways leading to the front doors of homes. Ranch and Cape Cod-style homes built through the mid-to-late 20th century make up the bulk of the community as wells as a handful of bungalows of the same era. Commonalities include occasional door and window cloth awnings and small stoops featuring metal railings. These properties sit on quarter-acre lots, many of which feature minimal landscaping and detached garages typically situated in backyards. Home prices range from $135,000 to $360,000, depending on size and condition.

Gateway Cafe's longstanding breakfast service
“One of my favorite restaurants in the area is Gateway Cafe, which has served breakfast and lunch for over 30 years,” Bitar says. “Similarly, DeRango’s Restaurant and Sports Bar has been in the neighborhood for over 45 years, making both long-standing neighborhood favorites.” The family-owned Los Taquitos also sits nearby and serves traditional Mexican fare. Chain restaurants line Green Bay Road 4 miles west, the area’s main corridor for shopping. Big box retailers like Target and Kohl’s line the stretch alongside Sam’s Club and Festival Foods for groceries. Closer to home, San Luis Grocery Store offers a selection of Mexican goods and ingredients. Two miles southeast, Downtown Kenosha is a hub for local establishments. Here, brunch cafes and coffee shops share space with antique stores and boutiques.

Snow Daze Festival and Taste of Wisconsin
Kenosha hosts several events throughout the year, including its Snow Daze Festival, a late January event with ice sculptures scattered along the sidewalks. The event also doubles as an impromptu Small Business Saturday, prompting attendees to shop and eat at local establishments featuring winter-themed displays. The Kenosha Harbor District hosts the Kenosha HarborMarket’s outdoor season every Saturday from May through October, alongside the annual Taste of Wisconsin in late July. The weekend-long event has food and beverages from more than 30 vendors and 80 different entertainers across four stages.
Kenosha School District's theatre and musical departments
Kenosha School District serves Grant. Students living east of 22nd Street attend Grant Elementary School and Washington Middle School, both of which maintain C grades from Niche. Those living west of the boundary attend B-rated Harvey Elementary School and Bullen Middle School, which receives a C grade. The middle schools combine at Bradford High School, which gets a B-minus. The high school puts on several musicals a year and is one of several Kenosha schools known for its theatre and music departments. “The programs around here have sent a few people to Broadway,” says Aaron Kohlmeier, owner and broker with Home Real Estate Group. Gateway Technical College, Herzing University—Kenosha and Carthage College are within 2 miles of the community.
