Homes with spacious lawns in Parkside
“Kenosha’s northwest neighborhoods are nice and well-kept,” says Sheila Heg, a managing broker with Lake to Lake Realty. “You’ll see a wide range of home sizes and prices, making it a great place to house hunt, whether you’re looking for a smaller starter home or a five-bedroom luxury build.” The mix of established ranch homes, minimal traditional, colonials and new construction comes equipped with tidy, spacious lawns, spanning anywhere from a quarter- to a half-acre. Prices range from $300,000 to $800,000. One-to-three-bedroom condos are also available here, selling for $105,000 to $290,000. Small ponds dot the neighborhood’s northern end, so a few properties offer waterfront views. “It’s a lot like the village of Somers; when something goes on the market, it’s gone quick,” says Stephanie Kaiser, a real estate agent with Big Block Midwest. “The other nice thing about this area is, while you have homeowners’ associations, they aren’t restrictive. You can have pools and outbuildings. You have the ability to do what you want with your property.”Skiing, hiking and golfing at Petrifying Springs Park
One of the most popular spots for outdoor recreation, and the oldest in the city’s park system, sits just north of Parkside via Wood Road. Petrifying Springs Park, known by locals as “PETS,” spans 350 acres that are jam-packed with things to do. “People from all over go there for hiking and cross-country skiing trails, the golf course, and a dog park, too,” says Laura Woltersdorf, a Realtor with RE/MAX Advantage Realty. The park edges the western end of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s small campus, which is lined with shaded sidewalks and has open grassy spaces used for picnics. The Northside Neighborhood Library sits just east of the neighborhood’s residential streets. Locals can browse for the latest page-turner or attend one of the community events, like afternoon movie screenings, craft workshops or book club meetings. Traveling 2.5 miles to Alford Park provides access to Lake Michigan. The green space is split into three sections which feature small beaches, biking trails and a playground.Unique electives offered at Bradford High School
Parkside is zoned for the Kenosha Unified School District. Elementary schools serving the neighborhood include Somers Elementary and Bose Elementary. Somers earns a B-minus rating from Niche, while Bose has a C-plus rating. Students later filter into C-rated Bullen Middle School, which offers smaller class sizes with a student-teacher ratio of 14-to-1. Bradford High School, which receives a B-minus from Niche, provides students with a large selection of unique elective courses, including desktop publishing, interior design, vocal techniques and construction planning. Its thespian troupe has also garnered attention, receiving an invite to perform at the International Thespian Festival in 2024, along with a select handful of other schools nationwide.Traveling along Interstate 94 to Chicago or Milwaukee
The amenities of downtown Kenosha are within 4.5 miles of Parkside. The city is rich in history, on full display at multiple museums and memorials. The vibrant downtown district also has a rich dining scene and scenic parks along the shores of Lake Michigan. Locals can also make the 4.5-mile drive south to medical care at Froedtert Kenosha Center. Interstate 94 serves as a hub for traveling to larger metropolitan areas. Take the freeway 36 miles north to Milwaukee, or head in the opposite direction for 69 miles to reach Chicago’s city center. Commuters can also catch the Metra Green Line in downtown Kenosha which runs south to Chicago’s Union Station.Old-school Italian dishes at Stella's Casa Capri or Sturino's
In the heart of the neighborhood, there is a Piggly Wiggly for grocery runs. There’s also a Pick ‘N Save nearby. The chain grocer is housed in a small shopping complex with several casual local restaurants. Moodys Subs and Sweets is known for its Mediterranean-inspired menu, from stuffed grape leaves to baba ghanoush. 22nd Avenue edges Parkside’s eastern end and is flanked by several Italian spots. Stella’s Casa Capri has an old-school feel, with checkered tablecloths and a fountain inside the restaurant. Sturino’s is a family-owned eatery that initially opened its doors in 1968 and served homemade Italian dishes to the area for 20 years before reopening in 2018.
