Sidewalks lay parallel to the main roads and are contrasted by carpeted, green lawns. The diverse selection of housing styles each tells a story, to morning walkers along these paths, of time and development in the Kenosha area. A 1989 ranch-style home with three bedrooms is priced at $272,000, which is the median single-family home price for this area. On the higher end of the listing scale, a 2022 Craftsman home with three bedrooms is priced at $399,900. These properties feature backyards with hosting space for summer barbeques and winter snowball fights.Play ball
Quiet Saturday mornings are broken up by the ring of a bat hitting a baseball across one of the four baseball fields at Charles Nash Park. Among the 54 acres, there are multiple sections of open space for children to run around or to use for a game of flag football, and by the picnic shelter, there are also playsets to climb. At Towerline Park, children have more recreational fields to use for soccer and batting practices; there are also plenty of swings on the playground for children to test who can reach the highest height while holding on tight to the chains. From explorations at the parks to supporting their local businesses, locals make the most of their neighborhood’s offerings.Life as a Stocker student
Stocker Elementary School is the first step in a student’s education. Niche gives a B-minus grade to this school and Mahone Middle School, where students attend next within the Kenosha School District. At Mahone Middle School, 50% of students are involved in the fine arts. Students may also select from 12 intramural activities and over 30 club opportunities to discover their passion. Once students reach the ninth grade, they may attend Indian Trail High School and Academy, which holds a Grade of B from Niche. As the seasons turn
Downtown Kenosha hosts all the big events. “All summer long, they have music festivals and craft fairs; they’ve got something going on every single weekend,” Capponi says. There is also the Harbor Market, which runs year-round with an indoor season during the colder months.Steering around Stocker
Green Bay Road, 60th Street and 75th Street centralize convenience. Not only do these roads connect residents with most shopping and dining options across the area, but 75th Street also feeds into Interstates 41 and 94, which can take locals to the Milwaukee Airport in around 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the Kenosha Metra is located less than five miles east of the area for commuters.Stocking the cabinets
To start the day off, residents enjoy a classic diner breakfast from one of the booths at Hillcrest Family Restaurant. Down 60th Street at The Daily Dose Café, customers enjoy a warm cup of coffee. “People who walk their dogs sit outside and families come here for breakfast all the time,” Capponi says. For a unique lunch and dinner experience, Sooshibay Bar and Restaurant serves sushi on a conveyor belt to customers. When searching for a new outfit or dishrags for the house, Marshall’s and Walmart are some of the variety of box stores situated along Green Bay Road. Locally-owned, Lulu Birds is a vintage spot downtown that sells refurbished furniture and consignments. Festival Foods and Aldi are convenient options for weekly grocery needs; meanwhile, a Costco is less than three miles away on 75th Street for residents to restock items in bulk.
