Classic homes and new developments near the heart of Kenosha
Many of the neighborhoods near the heart of Kenosha are undergoing a transition, and Uptown, about a mile west of the city center and Lake Michigan, is no exception. Redevelopment plans for the neighborhood and elsewhere in the city both began in November 2020, a few months after a police shooting and a period of civil unrest, during which parts of the neighborhood, including several businesses near 22nd Avenue and 63rd Street, were set aflame. Four years later, that same corner brims with the life of newly built workforce apartments, a grocery store and Kenosha’s first dedicated public library for children’s literature. Locals here have the same convenient access to Milwaukee and Chicago that other parts of Kenosha provide, while also being close to the city’s own major draws, including access to the second-largest of the Great Lakes.

Traditional single-family homes and multi-units
Residential properties in Uptown sit on city blocks between maple trees, oaks, hornbeams and lindens, with small yards and sidewalks. The neighborhood’s home market is led by single-family properties and converted multi-unit properties from the 1920s; about one third of residents are homeowners.Buyers can find traditionally styled houses here, including bungalows, Dutch colonials and minimal traditional homes. Some multifamily homes share the traditional home aesthetics, while others use all-brick designs; most of these are made to fit two to four families. Prices generally range from $50,000 to $420,000. “It’s a very rental-heavy market, and it’s changed quite a lot. People had to rebuild, but they’re really trying to bring it back,” says Tony Bitar, a Realtor with eXp Realty. A lifelong Kenosha resident, Bitar has sold homes in town for more than 10 years.

Lincoln Park live music in the summer
Uptown’s primary spots for outdoor leisure are just outside of the neighborhood. The park is also home to the annual Lincoln Park Live Music Series, an annual set of concerts with Milwaukee and Chicago area acts performing, with food trucks and local vendors close by. “The Mahone Fund led the charge to help something positive take place in the park,” says Steve Bostrom, a broker associate with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Epic Real Estate. Bostrom has sold homes in Kenosha for more than five years.West of the neighborhood, Roosevelt Park offers a splash pad for summertime play, a baseball field and courts for tennis and pickleball.
