'90s-built subdivision in Kenosha
The subdivision Whitecaps is within Kenosha, a Wisconsin city set alongside Lake Michigan and considered part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Located in the western part of the city, Whitecaps is about seven miles from downtown and the shoreline, so it's not close enough to see any literal white caps atop the lake's waves. An advantage is that the subdivision is in close proximity to some of the city's conveniences. "It's near I-94 and many shopping centers on Highway 50, hotels, grocery stores, and the area's two major hospitals," Dennis DuChene, president of Visit Kenosha, the city's official travel resource, says.
Residents can actively contribute to the community by joining the homeowners association. The Whitecaps Property Owners' Association has charged annual dues of $59 for the last decade. The association uses funds for community maintenance, snow removal and landscaping, which includes tree care and grass seeding. According to the initial declaration filed when the association started in 1993, the subdivision’s planning incorporated open areas that would not be privately owned.
Colonial- and farmhouse-inspired homes
"Whitecaps was constructed in the 1990s with single-family residences," DuChene says. With cohesive architecture, including nods to colonial and farmhouse styles, the homes here typically have three to four bedrooms. Prices range from about $300,000 for a three-bedroom with 1,200 square feet to $400,000 for one with twice the space. Condos and townhouses, situated in the southern part of the neighborhood, range from about $150,000 for a one-bedroom to $340,000 for a three-bedroom.
Sidewalks accompany evenly spaced lots which are fairly close together and typically have open front yards. Homes have a driveway and multicar garage to one side. Some streets are curved or have cul-de-sacs.
