"Prices for homes and the taxes are still fairly reasonable in Newton County. If you go across the county line to Jasper, the taxes go way up. But it's still not Illinois taxes," Carmony says. Downtown Chicago is about 65 miles from Roselawn and is accessible by car via Interstates 65 and 90. "A lot of people who live in this area like going to Chicago for activities without having to live in it," says Carmony.Local dining at Frankie’s Village Restaurant and Mel’s Downtown
Just east of Roselawn in De Motte, Frankie's Village Restaurant serves comfort food favorites like spaghetti with meat sauce, hoagies and strawberry pie. Mel's Downtown in Morocco is another popular, no-frills spot, serving dishes like omelets and pancakes for breakfast and cheeseburgers and pizza for lunch and dinner. For quick grocery trips, Save A Lot in Roselawn sells the basics. More extensive shopping trips can be made at the Southlake Mall, 26 miles north.
