Abbotts Creek
New builds and established homes
Pre-1990s construction is rare here. There are a few 1950s ranch and Minimal Traditional-style homes around here, but most housing popped up in the late ‘90s and early aughts. “Lots are normally bigger in the older neighborhoods,” says Pfefferkorn. Established homes can sit on parcels as large as a full acre. New urbanist-style developments like Eastover Park at Welden Village offer modern townhomes and Prairie/Craftsman-inspired standalone homes with slivers of yard space and broad sidewalks that run to community amenities. Pricing runs anywhere from $200,000 to more than $425,000.Highly rated elementary school and parochial high school
Caleb’s Creek Elementary earns a B from Niche. Southeast Middle School and R.B. Glenn High School both earn C-plusses. Glenn High students can participate in a variety of extracurriculars, from organizations like the Spanish Club or National Technical Honor Society to junior varsity and varsity-level sports. The three Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools are all located less than 5 miles southwest of home. Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School is less than 3 miles south, across Interstate 40. The Roman Catholic private school earns an A from Niche.Caught in a web of main roads, between two points in the Triad
“The area offers you a small-town feel while sitting smack-dab in the middle of the Triad. You’re just 20 minutes away from both Winston-Salem and Greensboro,” says Dylan King, an Arden Realty Group Realtor with going on five years of local experience. On the neighborhood’s north side, US Route 421 runs west to Winston-Salem; on the neighborhood’s south side, Interstate 40 goes east to Greensboro. Both larger cities are less than 20 miles from Abbotts Creek. North Carolina Highway 66 runs almost directly through the center of the neighborhood, heading north to downtown Kernersville and south to Horneytown. The Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center is off I-40 within 3 miles of most homes.Highway 66 dining and city center shopping
The main thoroughfare that runs north-south through the middle of Abbotts Creek is lined with businesses ranging from car dealerships and auto body shops to familiar favorite fast-food chains and eateries with more local flair. Sixty Six Grill & Taphouse is a popular Triad-based restaurant. “Sixty Six now has three locations, but Kernersville was the first,” says Rottweiler. The lunch and dinner restaurant is known for its hand-tossed pizza and handhelds from burgers to subs. Nearby, locals can enjoy diner-style Greek and American fare at Mad Greek Grill or Plaza Restaurant. Within 3 miles of most homes, northeast across US Route 421, Gypsy Road Brewing Company has been a local favorite spot for craft beer since 2018. The family and pet-friendly brewery has a casual, covered outdoor space with a stage, and hosts concerts, private parties and trivia/bingo nights on the regular. For groceries and other everyday essentials, residents can visit Aldi or Lowes Foods. The two stores are on either side of South Main Street, near downtown Kernersville, within 4 miles of Abbotts Creek.Triad Park and Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex
About three miles northwest across US Route 421, Triad Park offers myriad ways for locals to enjoy the great outdoors. Miles of paved trails loop through the park, from the amphitheater at the north end to the playground and soccer field at the south end. Between reservable shelters scattered all over the park, there are also playgrounds, horseshoe pits and sand volleyball courts. There’s even a ropes course and a fishing pond. Across from the amphitheater, the War Memorial Foundation’s Carolina Field of Honor stands in tribute to local veterans. Off Beeson Road, within a couple miles of most homes, the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex offer more than 100 acres of multiuse athletic fields. It hosts high school and collegiate-level cross-country events and adult softball leagues. The complex is also home to the Kernersville Soccer Association, which offers youth soccer programs like the Little Kickers team and the Junior Academy and All-Star programs.
