Genesee Central is a foothills neighborhood with many community groups
In the foothills west of Denver, Genesee Central’s residential streets wind through pine tree forests. “It’s a great location; only 20 [miles] to downtown, but it feels like it's a world away,” says Carolyn Kenney, a broker associate with HomeSmart who has over two decades of experience. “It’s a tranquil bedroom community, but vibrant in the sense that the community is involved. There are a couple of clubhouses, a library and lots of groups like quilting, biking and hiking.”
Genesee amenities, trail variety and Red Rocks concerts
Residents and guests can access any facility in the greater Genesee community, including clubhouses, some with a pool, a playground and tennis and pickleball courts. The association maintains over 12 miles of trails that weave through the foothills and have views of the Front Range. Additional trails, ranging from a mile long to over 6 miles, are just west of the neighborhood in Genesee Park. Less than 10 miles away, Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater has various multi-use paths and is well-known for its outdoor amphitheater. The venue consists of red sandstone monoliths and has hosted live concerts since 1906. “You’re also close to Loveland for skiing and Evergreen in the winter, where people play ice hockey on the lake,” Kenney says.
Mountain homes, townhouses and HOA services
Single-family homes and townhouses dot hilly roads shaded by mature Aspen and thick pine trees. Townhouse prices range from $880,000 to $1.1 million. Meanwhile, single-family home prices start around the townhouse peak and reach into the multimillions, depending on property size and views. Architectural styles include contemporary cabins, ranging from $1 million to $2.5 million, and stone-accented mountainside estates, which cost between $1.2 million and $3 million. The Genesee Homeowners Association serves all homes by maintaining trails, offering private plowing for driveways after snowstorms, and trash and recycling pick up. These services are funded with quarterly assessments for $710.
Genesee Central has a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4. According to Kenney, the neighborhood offers additional security services through vacation checks. “You just call up and request saying, ‘I'm going to be out of town,’ and off-duty deputies will come out and check on your place and make certain everything's OK.”
Locally focused Genesee Town Center and national stores nearby
Despite Genesee Central being entirely residential, retail centers, such as Genesee Town Center, are on local thoroughfares. Genesee Town Center is a strip mall lined with local businesses, such as a country store, and restaurants ranging from the coffeehouse Buffalo Moon Cafe to Genesee Pub and BBQ, where smoked meats are plated on silver trays. King Soopers and Walmart are both in shopping centers within a 10-mile drive.
Zoned schools in Jeffco Public Schools’ choice enrollment district
Jeffco Public Schools district, which offers choice enrollment, serves the neighborhood. Although students may apply to any school with space, some may elect to attend their zoned school, which includes the Niche A-graded Ralston Elementary School. The neighborhood is also zoned for Bell Middle School, which earns a B-plus, and Golden High School, which receives an A-minus. High schoolers may concurrently enroll in various courses to earn college credits at no cost, including those in world history and astronomy.
Drives from the mountains to the city and access to emergency services
Interstate 70 runs east and west, connecting Genesee Central’s mountainous terrain to Denver’s cityscape. The road also leads about 40 miles away to the Denver International Airport, which has direct flights to cities worldwide. Although Genesee Central is somewhat remote, it is not without access to emergency and medical services, such as medical centers on Evergreen Parkway. The Genesee Fire Protection District serves the neighborhood, monitoring weather conditions for wildfire risks and implementing burn bans accordingly.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
