One big family by the river in Logan Northside
Logan Northside is a gateway to recreation along the Black River and runs at a slower pace than downtown La Crosse, just a few miles away. “It's a perfect fit for someone that doesn't want to be out in the middle of nowhere but also doesn't want to be involved with large city bustle,” says Realtor Karla Frank, a longtime resident who works for Bi-State Realty & Appraisals. She says Northside is different from Southside for its older homes, and for being closer to box chains in the city of Onalaska. She also says people here take pride in their community and describe themselves as one big family. “Everyone just seems to know everybody and if you don't know them, you'll eventually meet them.” Logan Northside compliments its neighborly vibe with local parks and schools and places to swim, fish and launch into the water with friends.
Logan Northside is a La Crosse neighborhood with easy access to downtown and the nearby highway.
Logan Northside residents can access a number of neighborhood stops via boat on the Black River.

A mix of older homes and wide-ranging price points
Minimal traditional cottages and ranch styles mix with American Foursquare, Colonial Revivals and unique custom builds in Northside Logan. Most properties are established — with a median build year of 1984 — but there are a handful of newer options from the 2020s. Prices range from as low as $82,000 to $400,000, depending on a home's size, age and condition. The rarest range is from around $711,000 to $1.1 million for properties along Nakomis Ave, on a peninsula surrounded by Black River and Richmond Bay. Condos and multifamily homes range from around $122,000 to $543,000. Most homes are located east of the highway, away from the river, with small to modest yards and alleyway garages. Large trees shade sidewalks. “And no matter where you live in La Crosse you should be able to see the bluffs," Frank says.
Logan Northside has a number of unique builds throughout the neighborhood.

Diverse recreation, from boating to Zumba
With its fenced-in area for the dogs and playground outside of it, Wittenberg Park is a place to bring both the pups and the kids. Badger Hickey Park is another spot to bring the little ones, with a newer playground and a zip line after a park refresh in 2020. People fish, swim, play sand volleyball and launch their boats from Black River Beach. The beach is anchored by a neighborhood center that brings the community together. "I've done Zumba classes there and people host baby showers there," Frank says. Copeland Park's 30 acres are just south. The park is known for hosting the local collegiate baseball and softball teams and Oktoberfest in September. Veterans Freedom Park is also close with a marina, another boat ramp and fishing areas. Hixon Forest is less than 8 miles away with trails leading to a public golf course and Grandad Bluff, the city’s highest peak.
Black River Beach is a popular recreation spot in the warmer months.
The La Crosse Loggers play every summer at Copeland Park.

Shopping and Dining
Outside of the local KFC, Starbucks, and Harbor Freight Hardware stores, many businesses are independently owned. Frank says small businesses are big in La Crosse as a whole, but the city has plenty of Kwik Trip stores, and a distribution center just west of Logan Northside. "In downtown La Crosse [around 3 miles away], you have more shopping for clothing, and a lot of food options too,” Frank says. More chain options, including Target, are within 5 miles. Restaurants concentrate around the highways. La Crosse Family Restaurant is a popular comfort food spot that serves breakfast all day. Boaters can dock up for burgers and tropical cocktails at Moxie’s, an indoor-outdoor restaurant on the Black River. Our Corner Bar is a go-to for drinks, live music and bingo. Both Festival Foods and Sam’s Club are less than 4 miles away.
