Driving is the easiest way to get around here. U.S. Route 301 leads north toward Waldorf, while state Route 6 runs east-west through town. Downtown DC is roughly 36 miles away, or about an hour, depending on traffic. The Maryland Transit Administration also offers a commuter bus route from La Plata to Washington. Charles County's VanGO bus system runs local routes along U.S. Route 301, and the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center is right in La Plata. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is about 31 miles away.
