Resort-like amenities at the Rancho La Quinta Country Club

In the heart of the Coachella Valley, the exclusive country club community of Rancho La Quinta offers resort-style living with panoramic views of the Santa Rosa Mountains. With a guard-gated transponder entry, private amenities and luxury home options, the community’s refined lifestyle appeals to retirees, families and part-time residents looking for both relaxation and recreation.

Anchored by two private, pristine golf courses, the community is a golfer’s paradise within the city of La Quinta, which, along with the rest of the valley, is renowned for its high concentration of top-rated courses. Despite the region’s markedly dry climate, Rancho La Quinta is highlighted by lush, immaculate landscaping both on the courses and off, adding to the desert oasis appeal. According to La Quinta resident Lynne Mangan, an agent with California Lifestyle Realty, the land here is incredibly fertile. “You can plant practically anything, and it’ll grow,” she says, adding that the drought-tolerant, low maintenance Bermuda grass is also to thank for the green terrain during the dry, sweltering summers. “Around October, the Bermuda grass is deliberately left to die for a week and then it’s scalped and reseeded with rye grass,” she says. “It becomes this vibrant green and it’s just beautiful. You really don’t find that anywhere else."

Luxurious homes with a variety of floorplans and immaculate landscaping

Rancho La Quinta encompasses nearly 1,000 homes built between the 1990s and the early 2000s, each with Spanish or Mediterranean architectural influence. The community offers a variety of floor plans and housing options, allowing buyers to choose one that best suits their lifestyle. Single-family homes can have either one or two stories, and most have three to five bedrooms and floor plans ranging from 2,500 to over 4,200 square feet. Prices start at around $1 million and can go upward of $3 million, depending on the size, high-end finishes and level of updating.

88 homes in the community are known as the Casitas, which are in their own section of the community surrounding the racquet and sports club. Casitas are all paired, single-level condominiums that share one common wall with a neighbor. Most have floor plans that float around 2,000 square feet, with two to three bedrooms. Prices start at around $700,000 and range to $950,000 depending on upgrades. The community is also home to 95 detached homes called Ventanas, which are built around private courtyards. Like Casitas, Ventanas are also single-level with two to three bedrooms, though their floor plans are slightly larger with up to 2,500 square feet. Prices start at around $800,000 and range to $1.2 million.

Across the street from the country club, the Estancias section of Rancho La Quinta offers an additional level of privacy with its own separate gated entrance. These 49 custom, estate-like homes sit on larger lots of a half-acre to an acre and are the community's most luxurious. Estancia homes have sprawling square footage, with some floor plans boasting more than 6,000 square feet. Each features its own offering of high-end features like wine cellars, home theatres and designer backyard oases with waterfalls. Prices range anywhere from $2 million to $4 million.

With the exception of the Casitas, most homes have private swimming pools. While most homes in Rancho La Quina fall under the master homeowners association with a monthly fee of $1,164, those within the Casitas, Ventanas and Estancias sections are incorporated into the community through their own HOAs.

Private recreation amenities at the clubhouse and racquet club

After paying for a separate golf membership, homeowners can enjoy unlimited use of both the Robert Trent Jones Jr. course and the Jerry Pate 18-hole courses at the 23,000 square foot main clubhouse. The country club has several golf groups that members can join, including the Women Golfers of Rancho La Quinta, which hosts special events like mixers and tournaments.

Rancho La Quinta also offers plenty of non-golf amenities at its 12,000 square foot racquet club, which has eight pickleball courts and nine tennis courts, two of which are clay and one of which has stadium seating. The racquet club also has an outdoor swimming pool with daily water aerobics classes, as well as a fitness center and courts for bocce and croquet. All homeowners in the master association and the Casitas association have unlimited access to racquet club amenities as part of their monthly HOA dues. Those in the Ventanas and Estancias have full access to these amenities with an additional fee paid on top of their respective HOA dues.

For an additional fee, all residents and their four-legged companions can utilize the kennel club, which offers separate fenced-in areas for large and small dogs to enjoy off-leash play. All Rancho La Quinta residents can take part in organized monthly group hikes on different trails through the Santa Rosa Mountains. Hikes take place from November through April to avoid the sweltering summer temperatures, which regularly exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

A few restaurants within the community, with plenty of shopping and dining options nearby

Residents have access to a few dining options within the community. At the racquet club, the Cantina serves breakfast, lunch and Friday happy hour specials, with patios that overlook the stadium tennis court and the pool, while The Turn offers a casual dining experience at the main clubhouse. Both the racquet club and the main clubhouse are currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation, with a targeted completion date set for the end of 2024. The project will focus on modernizing the interior of both buildings and will expand the clubhouse's upscale dining room and bar while adding an additional dining spot at the racquet club.

An abundance of additional dining options can be found just north of the community on State Route 111. Louise’s Pantry is a longstanding staple for diner-style comfort brunches, while Fisherman's Market & Grill is a local favorite for seafood. The Beer Hunter is the local go-to for pub fare, craft brews and specialty cocktails, and the sprawling patio at the upscale Jackalope Ranch is a popular place to enjoy craft cocktails and barbeque. State Route 111 is also lined with quite a few grocery options, including Trader Joe’s, Sprout’s Farmers Market and Costco Wholesale, just to name a few. There are just as many retail options, with big-box stores like Target, Kohl’s, Walmart and Best Buy. For boutique shopping and additional food and drink options, residents can head to Old Town La Quinta a few miles southwest.

STEM and career-focused learning at La Quinta schools

Rancho La Quinta is zoned for the Desert Sands Unified School District. Harry Truman Elementary and La Quinta Middle School STEM Academy both earn B ratings from Niche, while La Quinta High receives a B-plus and offers a variety of hands-on career and technical education courses in fields ranging from biotechnology to visual and media arts.

Access to public transportation and State Route 111

Within the community, streets are lined with sidewalks, and many residents also commute via golf cart. Washington Street borders the community to the west, and is dotted with SunLine Transit bus stops, along with State Route 111 just north, connecting residents to stops throughout the Greater Palm Springs area. State Route 111 offers drivers a convenient commute to Coachella Valley hubs, and the bike lanes on Washington Street offer a 10-to-15-minute bike ride to Old Town La Quinta. John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital is a few miles northeast in Indio, while the larger Desert Regional Medical Center — the Coachella Valley’s only designated level 1 trauma center — is about 25 miles northwest in Palm Springs. Residents are 20 miles from Palm Springs International Airport, with nonstop flights to 30 U.S. destinations and one-stop flights to hundreds more around the world.
