The restaurant with a brunch and dinner menu is known for its chicken fried steak. Sammy's Mexican is another eating option within La Vernia. Students attend La Vernia Primary School for Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade, which has a B-plus Niche rating, before going to La Vernia Intermediate for 3rd through 5th grade, which has an A-minus rating. Students then go to La Vernia Junior High School, which has an A-minus rating. High school students attend La Vernia High with a B rating and a 15 to 1 teacher ratio.

City Park has something for everyone
La Vernia City Park offers diverse amenities, including baseball fields, basketball courts, walking trails, a splash pad, and more. There are also designated gathering areas, such as BBQ pits and picnic tables.

Parades bring out the entire town
The Bluebonnet Parade takes place every April; a celebration includes the Miss La Vernia competition winner and her court leading the festivities, consisting of floats from local businesses, schools, and organizations. The Wild West Hammerfest also draws cyclists from the region for rides spanning 40 to 72 miles. "Whenever we have community events, like Christmas parades, those types of things, everybody comes out; there's always a ton of people out. So, it's really got that classic small-town environment and a really strong tight-knit community," McCall says. These events usually take place right through town, with the city park and Little League fields being popular gathering spots.

High School sports uplifts the community
La Vernia's resident enjoy the town’s high school sport, especially Friday night football games. The small town does not have a public transportation system, requiring residents to drive their own cars to navigate the area. Bigger cities such as Schertz is a 20-mile drive from La Vernia. It is a 30-mile drive from both New Braunfels, Texas, and San Antonio. The nearest hospital to the small town is Methodist Hospital Northeast, which is about 25 miles away in Live Oak, Texas.
La Vernia High School offers a great athletic program to those in the area.
