Suburban streets come together just north of Tara Hills Golf Course to form South Wind, one of La Vista’s many newer residential developments. “As they build in those areas, they build in phases,” says Realtor Marc Cohn of KW Elite Real Estate. “One summer might be all cornfield, and then one summer it’s full of homes.” La Vista’s sprouting subdivisions were long preceded by the Offutt Air Force Base, a major employer for the greater La Vista and Omaha area. “A lot of the time, people in the Air Force who have been based in Japan or Germany end up in Omaha and have some stories to tell,” says Cohn. Pair that with highly rated schools and well-maintained parks, and the neighborhood is a serious contender for Nebraskan home buyers.

Sizeable New Traditionals in South Wind
The streets of the South Wind subdivision are woven neatly north of the golf course. Most of the housing is single-family, but there is a small collection of apartments on the south side. Of the neighborhood’s 400 or so homes, only seven sold between February 2024 and February 2025, lower turnover than is typical. Because these spacious New Traditional-style homes are within walking distance of the golf course, buyers pay a premium. Four-bedroom, 3,000 square foot homes typically sell between $375,000 and $515,000.
