A mix of modern residential and retail areas
Lacey’s Hawks Prairie neighborhood is known for its combination of master-planned residential developments, accessible amenities and proximity to outdoor spaces. Located near Interstate 5, Hawks Prairie is a growing area that offers residents a suburban lifestyle with quick access to Lacey’s retail and natural spaces. “The first word that comes to mind is ‘convenient,’” says real estate agent and longtime Lacey resident Laura Lundin of Abbey Realty. “There’s lots of retail, lots of restaurants and it's right next to the interstate. You’ve got nice modern houses and easy access to everything you need, so I guess the other word I would use is ‘comfortable.’”

Contemporary planned developments
Hawks Prairie’s residential areas mostly consist of modern master-planned communities featuring single-family homes, though there are a few condos in the neighborhood as well. Most of the development in the area occurred in the last 25 years, and the neighborhood continues to grow, with new builds springing up regularly. The architectural styles lean toward modern suburban, with a combination of Craftsman and traditional designs found throughout the area. Most homes come with attached garages and are situated on medium-sized lots with maintained yards, giving the area a clean, uniform look. Home prices in the neighborhood are a little more budget-friendly than nearby northeast Lacey neighborhoods like Meridian Campus and Edgewater, with most homes selling for between $400,000 and $650,000. The few condos in the area go for between $350,000 and $450,000.

Hawks Prairie Village Mall
Hawks Prairie’s defining feature is its proximity to a variety of shopping and dining options. “I would say it’s probably the most vibrant part of Lacey,” says Realtor Matt Murray of Van Dorm Realty, who has lived in the area for over 25 years. “And there’s even more development on the way. The Red Wind Casino is opening up a branch here, which should draw a lot of people.” The area has become one of Lacey’s main commercial hubs, with Hawks Prairie Village Mall serving as the central shopping area for much of East Lacey. The mall and surrounding area are home to a range of big box stores, including Walmart, Costco and Cabela's, along with supermarkets like Safeway and WinCo Foods. Warehouses and distribution centers for these large companies, and others like Amazon, comprise most of the northeast part of the neighborhood.
There are also a growing number of unique local shops in the area, like Shipwreck Beads in north Hawks Prairie, which claims to have the world’s largest selection of beads. Dining options in Hawks Prairie range from casual eateries like highly rated Meconi’s Italian Subs to popular pickleball and pub food spot 23 Kitchens. The neighborhood is also home to Top Rung Brewery, one of the most popular breweries in the area, and Stottle Winery. Those looking for a wider variety of restaurants and local eateries can easily head to downtown Olympia, a short drive away, where they’ll find independent cafes, pubs and international cuisine.
