Lakepointe
Neighborhood in Lacey, Washington
Thurston County 98513
'90s and 2000s suburban homes
Apart from Lakepointe Park, the neighborhood is almost entirely made up of single-family homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s. Architectural styles tend toward classic suburban designs, with a mix of ranch-style homes and two-story houses. Yards are generally simple and well-kept, and garages are common. Homes usually offer between 1,000 and 2,500 square feet of space and sell for between $450,000 and $600,000. “It’s a popular landing spot with military families,” says Clement. “It’s easy to get to the base, and you get good-sized houses for decent prices.” The neighborhood's CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, below the national average of 4.Lakepointe Park
Lakepoint Park is the centerpiece of the community, serving to some extent as a shared backyard for much of the neighborhood. It features multiple soccer fields along with a playground and a couple of small ponds. Golfers have their choice of nearby courses — Indian Summer Golf & Country Club and Capitol City Golf Club are both just west of the neighborhood along Yelm Highway. Immediately east of the neighborhood, Pattison Lake is a popular boating spot; unfortunately, the lake is almost entirely surrounded by private homes, and the only public boat launch is about a 6-mile drive from Lakepointe on the opposite side of the lake.Timberline High's Center for Technical Educations
Most kids in the neighborhood attend the local public schools, which are run by the North Thurston School District. Lakes Elementary School has a B-plus on Niche, while Komachin Middle School has a B. Timberline High School also has an A-minus and offers college courses to students through its career and technical education programs in partnership with nearby South Puget Sound Community College.Centennial Amtrak Station
The neighborhood’s most unique feature is Centennial Amtrak Station, located on the south end of the neighborhood. The station is both the only train station in greater Olympia and, allegedly, the only Amtrak station in the country built and operated entirely by volunteers. Seven northbound and seven southbound trains stop at the station daily. It’s 30 minutes by train to Tacoma, 80 minutes to Seattle and about two hours to Portland. Some homes in the southern section of Lakepointe back up to the tracks, so might get some train noise throughout the day. While Lakepointe is accessible by bus — it’s the last stop on Lacey’s Yelm Highway route — the majority of residents rely on cars to get around town. It’s about 8 miles from the neighborhood to downtown Olympia, the heart of the local arts and entertainment scene, and the Washington State Capitol Building and Campus. To the east, the main entrance to Joint Base Lewis-McChord is a little less than a 15-mile drive from the neighborhood.
Yelm Highway shops and restaurants
Lakepointe and all the neighborhoods around it are entirely residential, so shopping does involve a bit of travel. The nearest shops are located 1.5 miles to the west at the intersection of Yelm Highway and College Street. The shopping centers around the intersection are home to a variety of small chains, along with supermarkets Safeway and QFC and big box stores Walmart and Lowe’s. Locals looking for more extensive retail options generally head to central Lacey’s sprawling commercial district, located about 4 miles north of Lakepointe. Locals don’t have to go that far for a bite to eat, though. There’s plenty of dining nearby along Yelm Highway, including popular golf club pub Firecreek Ale House, which overlooks the Capitol City Golf Club, and highly rated Asian fusion eatery Lime Leaf.
