Center Post's quiet rural character and large plots

The quiet community of Center Post is located in rural Northwest Georgia, right off Highway 337. Tradition says the name stems from a wooden post that used to stand in front of the general store, where customers would hitch their horses in the days of yore. Today, the community is more countryside than commercial. Homebuyers are drawn to the area's large plots and relative isolation near a few small towns like LaFayette. “It’s a pretty country setting for somebody who wants that country feel and the possibility of getting a little bit of acreage,” says Tanner Heyer, originally from Northwest Georgia and now a real estate agent with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Jackson Realty. “There are bigger parcels out there. It’s a very quiet area.”

Homes sit on acreage throughout the community

Many homes in Center Post sit on long driveways off the main country roads. Properties are often several acres, some with working farms. The neighborhood also receives an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, considerably lower than the national average of 4. Few homes hit the market, but ranch-style homes and cabins typically go for $200,000 to $450,000.

Recreation at Pigeon Mountain to the community's west

Pigeon Mountain runs along the edge of Center Post and is a popular destination for outdoor recreation. “One benefit of living there is the view and the setting of Pigeon Mountain,” Heyer says. The Crockford-Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area includes 20,000 acres in and around the community, with trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, plus several caves to explore, including Pettyjohn’s Cave. The wildlife area is also popular with hunters, especially during deer and turkey seasons.
