Lafayette suburb within walking distance of the Tippecanoe Mall
On Lafayette's southeast side, Cambridge Estates is a residential pocket surrounded by shopping and industry. With an equal layout of apartments and houses, this neighborhood offers the option to rent or own, within walking distance of the Tippecanoe Mall to the south. This neighborhood also attracts those looking for a neighborhood with movement — from walking through the mall to walking through the neighborhood. "It's very family-friendly," says Lauren Whitaker, Realtor with Silver Lining Real Estate Group and lifelong Lafayette resident. She grew up spending time in Cambridge Estates with cousins who lived in the neighborhood. "Growing up, we'd just walk around all the time; you'll see kids playing in the backyard."
Shopping and kid-friendly attractions at Tippecanoe Mall
Shopping options border this neighborhood to the south. Tippecanoe Mall remains a shopping destination for clothing, home improvement and more with over 100 stores, including Macy's, Kohl's and JCPenney. Kids and teens can enjoy Malibu Jack's, an entertainment park in the mall with a wide range of activities, including go-karts, laser tag, mini golf, and a virtual coaster simulator. Pepe's Mexican Restaurant is a lively local mainstay near the mall where servers celebrate birthdays with a song. Locals can enjoy a margarita and an $11 taco dinner underneath the rainbow string lights. Pay Less has all of the expected grocery departments, including fresh produce and seafood. Crosswalks on State Route 38 provide a safer pedestrian connection to these shops and restaurants. "Luckily, if you don't have access to a car, you can walk," Whitaker says.

Competitive housing market in Cambridge Estates
Brick Colonial-inspired apartment complexes make up the neighborhood's west and north sides. These may have grassy common areas and community gyms. Single-family homes are located on the east side, including ranch-style houses and bi-level houses from the '60s and '70s. With lot sizes ranging between a quarter of an acre and a third of an acre, some properties have room for an in-ground pool in the backyard. Sidewalks make this a walkable community, with low-traffic streets adding to a kid-friendly atmosphere. Homes can range from $145,000 to $226,000, but they don't stay on the market for very long. "It's one of those places where homes are few and far between, and when you do see a house going up there, it'll be gone quickly," Whitaker says.
