Cheery greetings at Walt's Other Pub
To the northeast, South Ninth Street has some of the area's favorite restaurants. Walt's Other Pub is known for its chicken wings with a savory house teriyaki sauce. Yet it's the relationships that keep regulars coming back. "I refer to us as like a Cheers — we have a lot of the same regulars, so we get to know people's names. I think people really like that," says Jamie Bogan, General Manager at Walt's Other Pub. "We remember what they order, what they drink." On the other side of South Ninth, Teays River Brewing and Public House stands out for its atmosphere. The restaurant serves burgers and fries on the outdoor picnic tables beneath string lights. "It's a nice, quaint area," Curwick says. "My husband drinks a beer, and we just talk." A liquor store, beauty salon and bank are located in the same area. Pay Less has groceries about 1.5 miles west.'90s-era New Traditional houses
From short-term apartments to long-term homes, housing here accommodates different lifestyles. A few apartment complexes are located on the neighborhood's north side, while single-family homes are located throughout. They include New Traditional properties from the early to late '90s. There are L-shaped ranches and modern Colonials, both with vinyl exteriors and two-car garages. Ranches may cost between $180,000 and $250,000. Front yards are modestly sized AND well-maintained with short-cut grass. Cul-de-sacs create low-traffic areas where some families set up a basketball hoop.Earhart Elementary prepares tots for kindergarten
Amelia Earhart is a walkable elementary school on the east side of this neighborhood, earning a B-plus from Niche. The school encourages its 470 students to make a positive impact on the community. It also hosts a kindergarten readiness camp, designed for young kids with little to no preschool experience. As part of the Lafayette School Corporation, students can progress from Sunnyside Intermediate to Tecumseh Junior High, both of which earn a B-minus. Jefferson High School earns an A-minus, offering robust early college experiences.Art and music near Dover Estates
Occasionally, Lafayette events make their way down toward the Dover Estates Area. Art in the Park is a weekly festival in June and July hosted at several of the city's parks, including Armstrong. The event showcases local and regional fine arts, music, various food vendors and kid-friendly games and crafts. Downtown Lafayette is also a hub for community events, especially in the summer. Beers Across the Wabash offers the chance to sample beer from over 25 Indiana craft breweries. It takes place on the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge with views of the Wabash River.Walking culture in Dover Estates
Sidewalks wind throughout Dover Estates, although there is not much tree cover to provide shade. Bordering the east side, South Ninth Street is a convenient corridor leading out of the neighborhood that offers a straight shot north to downtown. Portions of the thoroughfare have a sidewalk and/or bikelane, so pedestrians and bikers can have a can also make their way downtown.Path around the pond at Armstrong Park
Family-friendly parks are within walking distance. About a mile north, South Ninth Street opens up to the picturesque green space that is Armstrong Park. In the early morning, fog rises above the park's pond, bordered by a walking trail. Five lighted tennis courts offer a space for exercise into the evening. Armstrong is also home to a multiage playground and three youth baseball fields. It can accommodate birthday parties and other celebrations, with a rentable shelter for 50 people. Just below Armstrong is Linear Trail, a 1.1-mile pathway located on top of an old railway corridor.
