Suburban neighborhood connected to shops, restaurants, schools and parks
Dover Estates is a Lafayette neighborhood with a sense of connectivity. Located 3.5 miles south of downtown, the community offers a laid-back suburban lifestyle. There's a school within the neighborhood and shops, restaurants and parks just outside. All of this is within walking distance along South Ninth Street, bordering the neighborhood's east side. "The main drag is right outside your subdivision," says Sally Curwick, broker associate with Re/Max at the Crossing. "There are restaurants, nail places and liquor stores right there. It's a hop, skip and a jump to all the necessities." Connectivity here is both practical and relational. Sidewalks connect the neighborhood's physical spaces, while neighborly interactions connect the people.

Cheery greetings at Walt's Other Pub
To the northeast, South Ninth Street has some of the area's favorite restaurants. Walt's Other Pub is known for its chicken wings with a savory house teriyaki sauce. Yet it's the relationships that keep regulars coming back. "I refer to us as like a Cheers — we have a lot of the same regulars, so we get to know people's names. I think people really like that," says Jamie Bogan, General Manager at Walt's Other Pub. "We remember what they order, what they drink." On the other side of South Ninth, Teays River Brewing and Public House stands out for its atmosphere. The restaurant serves burgers and fries on the outdoor picnic tables beneath string lights. "It's a nice, quaint area," Curwick says. "My husband drinks a beer, and we just talk." A liquor store, beauty salon and bank are located in the same area. Pay Less has groceries about 1.5 miles west.
